Byrnes Mill Stables

I had my horse there for several months and have nothing bad to say about the facility or the level of care my horse got. My horse has had some issues this past winter and the owners did everything they could to help me. In addition everyone is so friendly and the barn is in a very easy to get to if you live in the st louis jefferson county area. Would recommend this place to anyone more

I love this barn and the owners are always available. In fact they live on the property so they know all the horses and make sure everything is safe there for the riders and the horses. They are friendly and charge a fair price for what you get. They are not money hungry they are running a business and do have a lot of cost involved. I can always ride no mater what the weather is like outside cause they have a huge in door arena with a sprinker system that they installed just for the boarders. They also installed more wash racks so that everyone can bathe their horses. They have an outdoor area that they maintain and plow so that we can also enjoy riding outdoors when the weather is nice. The barn is always clean and the horses are very well taken care of. I see no feeding issues what so ever. There are no horses that are negleted or malnutritioned at this barn quite the contrary. They are given two flakes of fresh hay twice daily along with two scoops of 12% grain. They clean your stall and add shavings five days a week, they also let your horse out in pasture if you want five days a week. They offer more services if you want for a minimal fee like letting your horse out seven days a week and cleaning your stall among other things that you may request. You will always have people that will find fault no matter how nice a barn is and you will never be able to please everyone especially people that move from barn to barn aka (barn jumpers) I myself plan on staying at this barn as long as I can. I am very happy with paying a $10.00 fee for the use of electric so my horse can have a fan anytime I feel it is hot out. Utilities are not free and neither is anything else in life, some people just think that they should get a free ride in life, I am not one of them, I know that what I get is worth the extra charge, if I couldn't afford to take care of my horse then I think I would sell him. After all it isn't a cheap hobby and we all know that when we buy one. Pros: are always making improvements for the boarders and h Cons: Can not think of any more

-You see the huge impact that happens when they come here. they look soo much more amazing! I used to ride at another farm in fenton, which i dont want to say the name because im not trying to bash them at all, but anyways I had a friend out there that used to board her mare in the mare's pasture (year round), she of course was actually very disproportionate because she had a huge hay belly and really didnt look so great. She then moved to byrnes and as I was on the trails one day with my horse, I saw two riders come up to me. I barely even recognized this horse, she was stunning, her coat had evened out and all of the bite marks were pretty much gone. I recognized the owner but I stood there telling her that this could not POSSIBLY be her horse from before. BUT it was. I think that byrnes really does changes horses, not in bad ways, but in amazing ways :-) -The first time I came to this barn, I realized that this barn is so different than most commercial barns...I am a teenager and I will tell you one thing about teenagers is that we LOVE to talk about each other haha. When I came to byrnes I really noticed that no one cares about ""the horse being perfect"" or ""how someone rides""..I have never been very good at social situations at the barn because I am constantly told that my horse is ugly. No one. NO ONE tells me that here and everyone, including the owners are very accepting. I love my new barn friends...I have been here for a month and I already feel like part of the barn family. -I also am very pleased with the new construction. There are no loud noises anymore, but everyday I come and see something is new, such as the clubhouse, where people can come hang out in and watch people ride in the outdoor arena :-) im happy to see a constant amount of effort the owners put into it. -Don't let anyone tell you that this barn is bad. When the old owners owned it, it was a dump. Now, they have amazing owners that really are so helpful. I'm happy to be out of the commercial lesson barns, and actually get to ride my horse again w/o feeling like people are critiquing my riding. :-) -Also, for all you horse people out there that love to show. Myself and 5-6 other young girls have decided to create the Byrnes Mills Show Team. we would love new members and would love for you to be a part of us! Thanks everyone! this barn is better then some barns yes but peopel who have boarded at better barns know what there horses should be getting and this barn is not it the fed cracked corn to the horses for about a week till boraders found out and and complained then the swicted to a feed that was better but still has almost no nutrition. if you think its good there ten congts but people who have ben to better barns andk now how they and their horses should be treated know its not a good barn easy keeper horses do fine there but if your horse actually needs nutrion from its feed its not a good barn quarter horses do fine they can survive on grass to bad there is no grass that would probably help out maybe if they mowed the pastures and kept the horses in for a day and let the good grass grow horses would be better and if they fed good feed things would be better to but they dont cus they are onlyh in it or the money that they really shouldnt be making in the horse boarding buissness not a way to make money only way to make money in the horse boarding buisness is to give leassons and cater to the boarders wants and needs be friendly to people and dont treat them like they are less important then you Pros: nothing Cons: rudeness barbed wire unfreindly no exspericance more

Great place to board, though there is construction is didn't really bother me to the fact that it's a great training aid for your horse for bomb proofing, and to add to that its not like the work that is getting done takes forever! When things get told to the boarders that there is being work done it gets done and get's done fast. Most barn's charge extra for things such as if you want more hay, fan's, runs. they recently upped there price to 10 dollars for a fan because of how high electricity is, with the way the economy is this does not surprise me that the price was raised. And as long as you dont think your horse needs a fan then dont pay for one its not a must!... also some people like to keep there horses in and not let them go out on pasture and if you look these are the slightly skinny horses not the ones that get the proper nutrition they need. If you dont want your horse to be turned out dont move to a place that has everyday turnout! simple as that. And a dollar per hay flake isnt that much... 50 cents or less now come on now would you sell hay for that cheep and especially since Byrnes Grows their own hay which is Great by the way. Random people coming in and out of the barn. I have personally only seen this once and walked up to them personally and asked them what they were new boarders they said no and said that they only wanted to see the horses. I then relied by saying that this is a privately owned barn and if they wanted to see horses they would have to talk to the owners. With the owners never being their... at least they live on the property which i cant say most other barns have. The owners 90 percent of the time are always there! Just most people are too lazy to walk up to the owners door and knock to see if they are home. Just because they are not outside when you want they does not mean that they are not there. Both owners have a cell phone and texting so if you even really need them and they are not home for that moment you can always get a hold of them. They do have lives outside the stables. They are currently making the outdoor bigger and adding in new footing that is all weather resistant. The indoor isnt huge but its bigger than most and its better than nothing. Also the mares pasture is being slightly extended. The run's also have grass in them rather than some places where its mud. The only other thing that goes with ""trying to get money out of boarders"" would be the Bug Check that is pretty much of a requirement at the barn. But hey if it keeps the fly's away and keeps the barn, the horses and the people happier why not spend 13 extra dollars for it. It's cheaper than fly spray and last a lot longer. Oh and having to do with the ""barb wire"" Its on a tiny little spot in the geldings pasture on the side that the owners cannot remove because it is not their property! i hope that the people that read all of the reviews don't judge this barn solely on the bad reviews or good and go and check out the barn first hand rather than reading everyone opinions. First of all this barn is not a bad place its just ran wrong it has potental to be a great place but alot of things need to change.\r \r 1st: the horses are skinny, not all the horses but alot of them,this can be fixed by giving the horses more and better hay,this can also be fixed by getting actual grass in the ""pasture"" the weeds that go up to your knees need to be cut so the grass can actually grow, better grain would aslo help this issue not all horses are easy keepers and if your going to charge people atleast $300 you can buy better grain they say that there is no barbed wire on the property its all electice fencing but it is barbed wire in the back and sides of the pasture where you can not see upon first look yes they have electice fencing but they never turn it on \r \r 2nd: charging people for extra things is not a bad thing but over charging them is a problem. $10 a month for use of a fan is a bit much considering the horses are out side all day and i highly doubt the fans will be on at night considering it would be a fire hazzord plus you have to buy your own fans. charging for thins such as hay is not a big deal if they were not priced so high\r \r 3rd: random people coming on and off the property, this causes a problem when people that have no connection with the horses or the people that own it come on to the property during the day when the owners are there and only the one young man whom works for them is there and doesnt speak much english, this poses a problem because what if no one notices they are there and they deside to harm a horse that is there or destroy parts of the barns or things on the property like the boarders trailors.\r \r 4th: lots of work goes on there and there is lots of noise and commotion the best words i can use to discribe this is chaos . all the projects they have desided to do should not be worked on during the weekends when all the boarders are out they should be during the week when only a few people come out and it would not be as bothersome to them. and in all reality they should not be worked on all at once one should be startred and finished then move to the next one \r \r 5th: the rudness from the owners of thie barn is unbelive able being rude to adult women is unexceptable. you are trying to run a buisness in order to do that you are not rude to anyone that comeing to your buisness it does not matter if they do buisness with you or they are just there to look around or are visiting a friend or faimly member who does do buisness there. being rude is a good way to get your buisness name out there in a bad way no one wants to be treated rude when they are trying to enjoy them selfs with their horses \r \r \r 6th:trying to make money in borading horses is not going to happen. the reason some of these big barns do so well is because they have been passed down from generation to generation and have perfected how they do things they are family owned and operated and they dont make much off boarding they make it off lessons and leasing. these barns also cater to the boarders wants and needs and treat them with respect.\r \r Pros: nothing Cons: skinny horses, barbed wire, lack on knowledge, money hungrey more

I have a horse boarded here and he loves it! He gets to eat grass all day long Monday - Friday along with 2 flakes of hay morning and evening and 2 scoops of 12% sweet feed. I love the fact that there is only occupation for 40 horses (gelding and mares) at this time. I like keeping it small and friendly. If you need extra hay, buy it. My vet says that with all day pasture they really don't need any more hay! I disagree because I like to spoil my horse! The owners are friendly,helpful , reasonable and open to suggestions. Like everyone, if you have a problem with something at the barn go straight to them and don't gossip about it behind their backs. That's the mature thing to do. It's true that there are improvements being made and it can get a bit busy, but it's for the good of the stables and I'll happily wait it out to reap the rewards. If you have a high maintence horse, I would suggest you go elsewhere or buy a farm. I could do without the drama of your demands and complaints and it brings down the positive energy and morale. \r The bottome line is this, I love it there. If you want to come and look around and talk to the boarders that are there now, come out and say ""Hi"". We'll let you know how it is. Please don't go only by the low reviews of those that for some reason don't agree with the policies or are barn jumpers. I hope they're happy at their new place, but I imagine with time they'll find problems there too. I've ridden at 4 different barns, and this is by far the best barn I've been to. It is one of the ONLY barns in the area with real, grass pastures, not just mud. The owners are friendly and around regularly, unlike barns where you sign the board forms and never see the owners again. When I came to this barn, I was nervous about meeting the people... What a waste of worry! The boarders out there (english & western both.. I love the variety!) are some of the nicest people I've ever met, and the horses are beautiful and well taken care of! I enjoy riding out on the trails with them, and we help each other out when we can't figure out something with our horses. My riding has improved SO much since coming here. It's not just a boarding facility, It's a community - very family friendly. It's constantly expanding and improving & it is very well maintained. The owner's live on the property too, so you don't have to worry about your horse when your not there, especially at night. I really can't say enough praise about this stable! Wouldn't recommend. The owners have no experience running a boarding facility and limited experience handling/caring for horses. Have been open a year and lost several boarders (which is never a good sign in that short time frame.) One paid employee who doesn't speak english. Construction equipment all over property. Outdoor riding arenas in poor shape. Barbwire still in place in one pasture. Extra charges for things like a stall with a window and a dollar for an extra hay flake. Cons: alot more

This is a awsome place to board i have boarded at byrnes mills for about a year now and love it. i moved there because where i was my horse had lost a lot of weight because they thought they were giving them the right amount.. though they were wrong , just after 30 days of my horse being at Byrnes Mills she had gained 80 pounds because she was happy and getting feed the right amount of grain. There is plenty of space to ride and huge grassy fields for your horses to graze in! All the people are friendly, no barn drama and their is always someone to ride with.. not overcrowded.
