  • The history of the funeral home begins with Ed Jones, who operated a funeral business on North Water Street, Loudonville. In 1918, Mr. Jones sold his business to Henry Swank, who operated the business on Main Street until his death in 1934. His two sons-in-law, Harold Young and Dewey Pipes, purchased the business known as Swank Funeral Home and in 1937 they purchased a large home at 123 North Market Street, the current location. The home was largely remodeled and enlarged and then in 1945, the Swank family sold the business to Max Peoples. In 1948 Mr. Peoples sold the funeral home to Floyd Banks of Lucas. In 1953 Mr. Banks purchased the assets of the T. B. Gilbert Funeral Home on North Spring Street, Loudonville. In 1972 Mr. Banks brought a partner into the business, Ted Byerly and his wife Patricia, who owned the funeral home in Lucas. The Loudonville funeral home became known as Banks-Byerly Funeral Home. In 1976 Mr. Banks retired and the Byerly Funeral Home of Lucas was merged with the Loudonville business. In 1997, Walt and Kimberly Lindsey of Willard purchased the funeral home and formed the Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home. Walt Lindsey had been a former employee of the Byerly Funeral Home from 1980 until 1983. The Lindsey family history of funeral service goes all the way back to 1894 when Walt Lindseys great-grandfather began his furniture and funeral business in Willard, Ohio. The Lindsey family history of funeral service was handed down from generation to generation continuously through 1997 when Walt and Kim returned to Loudonville to own and operate Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home.
