I may be spoiled by more authentic fare in my frequent haunts in Dearborn, but nonetheless, Byblos is sub-par Middle Eastern food. Been here a few times over a period of years and have only seen the food get worse. Though not awful, the only sell is the lassis made with mango and cheesecake (delicious, though expensive for the size). Furthermore, the food is highly Americanized (just look at the menu to see how much typical American food is incorporated with the ""authentic"" dishes!). Hummus is mealy, schwarma (which was once authentically garlicy) is now bland, and ""authentic"" dishes are strangely not (a dish of chicken tawook topped with a salty melted piece of swiss cheese? what?!). Price isn't steep but is certainly not worth the bang for the buck.
Service was decent, with a friendly waitress and man at the cash register. Still, I think this place is in business due to its prime location right off Wayne State's campus and nearby DIA. The frequent customers just don't seem to know good Middle Eastern food. The sure sign a restaurant is good and authentic? You'll see the ethnicity within the restaurant; the few such customers i've seen there have ordered burgers!
If you want good, authentic Middle Eastern for good prices, drive the 10 minutes to Amani's on Michigan Ave.!
Pros: The lassis!
Cons: Food is so-so.
