Fun but don't get stuck in the mud! 7/15/2006

I love going out to this orchard to do some u-pick of seasonal produce (especially apples and blueberries). I have picked strawberries and pumpkins at Butlers and have been very pleased. It is expensive and overpicked at times. It is very easy to go with children because you can drive to the U Pick site with your own car. Watch it though because the berries add up quickly and you end up spending more than you intended. Check out the produce in the barn too because they have local produce just like a farmers market would. I once got my car stuck in the mud and no one working there would help me (pregnant) get it out. That made them lose a star in my review. more

Great Fruit 3/19/2006

The pick your own fruit at Butler's Orchard can't be beat. This farm is very convenient to DC, and the prices are reasonable, much better than you would find at a the grocer. There are always kids there with their parents, and the employees are very helpful. I particularly like the strawberries in May and the blueberries in July. The ride to the fields for blueberries is great, you go out in a wagon pulled by a truck. The strawberries are closer in, and you park right by them. more

Take the kids! There are seasonal activities as well as "pickin' to be eatin'" for everyone. Most of what they grow is available picked as well as "yo pick it". They also offer a wide variety of gift items (all very yummy!) made with there fruit and vegetables, and locally. The best part about picking your own is that they weigh whats in the basket, not the pickers! Call ahead and check on the seasonal activities-they're great! Tons of parking, a fun "back to roots" experience. more
