    Though Pilates began as a rehabilitation program during World War I,when Joseph Pilates came to America,he focused on the dance and theater professionals of Manhattan to build his business. Doctors,including orthopedists,rehabilitation specialists,and chiropractors,often recommend Pilates to correct posture and eliminate chronic lower back,neck,knee,and shoulder problems. More recently,a surge of media coverage has extended awareness of Pilates training from these circles into the mainstream society.
