David does excellent work. More important, he is honest. I trust his word.

GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! 4/29/2013

We took my daughter's car in for a supposed transmission leak and a brake leak. She only had a transmission leak, which was pretty inexpensive. My daughter didn't have enough time before class on the first day so went back the next day and they worked her right in. Then they took my credit card info over the phone, as I'd forgotten to give it to her. They were "super nice" according to my daughter. more

Fast and expected 3/30/2013

I love going to Burfords because I know they are going to get the job done that I needed and they are not going to try and up-sell or over charge me for a bunch of services I don't need. If something else is wrong they will let me know but not gouge me like other garages. more

Keeps my son's old clunker running 3/22/2013

My Son is in college so naturally all of his and our money goes to tuition and books with precious little left over. Therefore he can't afford a new car but has to rely on keeping his old clunker running. Steve and his Crew at Burford's Auto Works have worked miracles over the years in keeping this car running in tip top shape. The are always fair and honest with their prices and they don't try to convince us to do something that is not needed on an old car like this one. more

Bufords Auto Works 10/9/2011

I highly recomment Buford's Auto Works. I just moved to the area and didn't know who to go to for a replacement of my inner tie rod. Alot of the places I was calling wanted from 250-300!! I may be a girl but I know what I should and should NOT pay for auto service. I decided to try a couple more places, one being Bufords and I was immediately surprised. The woman I talked to was so nice, and wasn't hurrying to find out what I needed/wanted. I told her I needed my inner tie rod replaced and that I wasn't going to pay 200-300 for it. She immediately laughed and said she was glad I called them, she got the head mechanic on the phone and I realized what compassionate, honest, and reliable they really were. He told me he would do it as fast as he could and that to expect no more than 165 for the total. The next day, I brought my car in, they only took 30 minutes and the man I talked to the day before recognized my voice. He said, you know what? I'll make it a few dollars cheaper, so he wrote the ticket as 158.63. I was AMAZED, I will NEVER go to pepboys or merchants because they just care about money and taking as long as they damn please so I pay more. I love Bufords! I continue to go there now!! more

BEST SHOP IN TOWN 8/9/2011

I highly recomend Buford Auto Work , our first experience with them was back on the 90's , when they fix our daughter little convertible with a lot of problems, which no bodyelse fixed before . After being dealing for years with the dealers shops , last year I remembered their good service and went back to the shop , they worked on three of our household cars , I received the most caring services , always attentive to our concerns , always honest , reliable ,and respectul , Explaining all details of the cars problems, advising about it cost at very rezonable price For me , they are the best in town I understand that is a family bussiness that deserve our support more

Great Repair Shop 4/6/2011

I wouldn't take my car anywhere else for repairs. They have great mechanics and have always been honest about the repairs my car really needs. They take the time to explain and show me how things work and why the repair is needed. My kind of shop. more

Asked for money up front! 2/7/2011

They gave me a good price, but 3 days later ask for the money up front, stateing they dont know whats wrong with the car.. I'm not sure if i would recommend these services..But it may be my only option.. I hope we can edit these things later if i'm wrong. But it is highly unusual for an auto mechanic.. to not know what is wrong with the car having parts, and a desciption of what needs to be done. And then to ask for money upfront. Thats just asking for trouble..and a sure sign they dont know what they are doing. usually more

Unprofessional crooks 1/10/2011

They charge labor as much as the Jeep dealer ($90/hr) do the job without calling for permission about the expenses (Jim: ""we do not call"") and charged me $49.50 for 2 light bulbs (Sylvania 9145) that cost each $6.78@Walmart, $9.99@Autozone, saying that Fisher (Federated) Auto Parts charges them $24,50 each. The whole job consisted of replacing the left headlight wiring kit that I provided (the dealer offered to do that for $45 if I left them my car for the day) and replacing the 2 fog lamps: final bill $147.19 @ Buford Auto Works, 7901 W Broad Street, Richmond VA 23294 more

Some of the worst customer service I've received 2/24/2009

The only reason I didn't give these guys 1 star is because I can imagine worse. The number one reason I give them 2 is due to customer service. I work on my own cars, and the only reason I went here was to have an inspection. Simple enough, right? Well, first they fail my inspection because my tie-rod was ""loose"". Now mind you, I've been working on cars since I was 14, I know when a tie-rod is loose. So after the mechanic there showed me it ""move"", he tells me he can't allow it to pass (after further inspection at home, the tie rod was NOT loose at all). Then, after I out right told him that I just put a new head gasket on my car myself, he has the nerve to try and charge me $150 for a tie-rod, and that's without labor. So I went home, bought a tie-rod from Autozone for $30, and replaced in in 1 hour. Went back again and even though they were suppose to be open until 7, they closed an hour early. Because they wanted to I guess? They never had a clear excuse. I can't really go to many other places because I get off work at 6, and most mechanics close at the same time. So I make sure the next day they will be open until their normal hours so I can get re-inspected. I get there, they pull my car in and they immediately tell me I need to take it back home and put my cut out back on. A cut out is a plate on my exhaust that when taken off, makes it louder (I have a ""muscle"" car). This plate takes a wopping 30 seconds to put on. It's 3 wing nuts that hold a plate on. I asked them to put it on and they said no. I asked them if it will charge me more for 30-60 seconds worth of work, and they said just bring it back later. I guess they wanted to go home, or they just wanted to give poor service, I don't know what it was. Needless to say I went somewhere else for the inspection. That's my experience. Apart from their outrageous prices I don't know much about their repair service quality, but their customer service is sub-par, and that's the nice way of putting it. Pros: Got my car in pretty quick Cons: Customer service is trash more

BEST SERVICE STATION IN RICHMOND!!!!! 4/23/2008

I highly recommend this Exxon station! I have been coming to Burfords for years for anything from gas, to inspections, and SEVERAL flat tires from driving through home construction sites! I have rented many trucks from them as well! The Burford family is always welcoming, and provide good old fashion service! BEST SERVICE STATION IN RICHMOND!!!!! Pros: Most everything! Cons: Sometimes it takes a few days to get in for an inspection, bc they are that busy! more

several visits later...it's still not fixed! 11/28/2005

I just today went to pick my car up for the 4th, yes 4th, time of physically being left in the shop for the exact same repair work. I got my keys, got in my car and......yep, you guessed- still had a problem. So, once again I am having to leave it there to be ""fixed""--if that's what they really are doing. That's just the short version though....I've gone by for day visits just as many times for the same problem. It's a simple problem with the power steering, but they just keep screwing it up! I have been nice up until now, but just told the owner that this was no longer acceptable. He got defensive....and a few minutes later he hung up! DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!!!!! Cons: promises not kept, defensive, insensitive more
