variable food, but poor help and management 10/26/2006

We had prime rib and sand dabs. The prime rib was wonderful. As good as it gets. The sand dabs were soggy because they had dumped some canned peas and their juice on the plate. The one piece that was not soggy was excellent, though. The canned peas were very bad, and their juice ruined the taste and texture of the sand dabs. I think they have one good cook in the kitchen and a bunch of lazy unskilled help doing the rest. I can't imagine why such a high priced place would serve such a low quality vegetable in such a poor manner. Service was slow and poor. As an example, when we asked for a water refill, they just topped our glasses, leaving the stale ice cubes and lemon slices in the glasses. This is coffee shop service, not 90 dollar restaraunt service. The prices were higher than the menu on their web site. Their wines were a little higher than they should have been. The place is coasting on their reputation and needs a management change before they go under. more

A 1950s treasure 8/14/2005

Do you remember going out with your parents to those dark restaurants with big red booths, and women with large hair? Well, enjoy your childhood -- it's still there. The food is good, not great, but really a good value, and large portions. There are no tables in the dining room, only booths. A few tables as well as booths in the bar (which is sometimes the only room open at lunch). The waiters are quirky, sometimes a little salty or cranky, but it's a fun experience over all. The early bird menu is an amazing value, if you want to eat with the seniors. Well, there's lots of seniors all the time. Later at night, a scattering of ""hipsters,"" as the description says. This is one of those places that's a staple. Pros: Inexpensive, Good parking, Very casual Cons: Service can be slow more

We were unwelcome guests. 12/20/2004

We were shocked by how unfriendly and inattentive the service was. We were not acknowledged by the grumpy hostess when we walked in until finally she told us to just "sit down and wait." And that is pretty much all we did. Service was painfully slow. We waitied nearly an hour for our food and despite our requests for more bread and water refills, we got none. It wouldn't have been so bad if we were treated well, but we were made to feel like more of an inconvenience than anything else. What a disappointment. Pros: good soup Cons: , noisy kitchen, lots of waiting more

You don't get what you pay for 11/19/2004

My wife and I chose the prime rib and the filet mignon, attempting to give this local restaurant another chance. We last ate here 10-12 years ago and vowed not to return. Well, we decided to patronize a local restaurant in our community and gave it another try. This time it's final: we won't be back. When one pays the kinds of prices the BW charges for meat dinners, one would like fresh vegetables with the meal, and not something that came out of a can and warmed in greasy broth. The waiter should also refrain from calling customers "you guys." Pros: close to home Cons: , canned vegetables more

PRIVATE CLUB MEMBERS ONLY 7/24/2004

If you've lived in this Westchester neighborhood time has forgotton for sixty years and never go into the ""real world"" ...you might enjoy this restaurant. The waiters will wait on you IF you are one of their OldTime customers (and they look like oldtimers for sure) You won't see anyone dressed up... and if YOU are...you will be ignored. We gave it several chances because the Green Goddess Salad is good but finally after being ignored by the waiters too many times, we will not go there again. (The piano player was friendly at least.) The prime rib was more than 50% fat...yukkk!!! and the only vegetable was cauliflower...the whole plate looked very unappetizing. They had a ""stand in waitress"" on the floor they grabbed from the salad prep area probably...not at all professional. Large loud obnoxious business groups like this place. Not an ounce of class here. Pros: green goddess salad, easy to find parking, Peter playing piano Cons: , lots of fat on things, food is unappetizing more

Not Recommended! 3/23/2004

The food was pretty good but seriously overpriced. The service was okay but considering what we paid for the meal, I would have expected a lot more. The decor was very old and there was duct tape holding the seat leather together. Finally, the restaurant itself smelled a little bit bad. Pros: Good Food more

First Timer 2/27/2004

I had a hard time deciding on what to have but I went with the Rack of Lamb. I should have ordered the Prime Rib. Their creme broulee was delicious also, only thing missing was the cream corn and it runs a close second to Lawry's. I will frequent this restaurant whenever I am in town. Pros: Delicious food, Not crowded, Fast service Cons: , Expensive, Needs better veggies more
