A wonderful renovation! 8/3/2010

This place has undergone an awesome transformation in the past year. It now includes a great section for East European fare, with delicious cheeses, meats and bakery selections. Yum! (And such good bread, too!) They've cleaned everything up and organized the aisles to include a lot more, especially in the dry goods, than they had a couple of years ago. I've always loved this place, but now, it's WOW! They rearranged the area that had a lot of household goods; it has less furniture now, so there's more room in the store for other items. You can still get bamboo floor mats, and those great low tables that are perfect for eating while watching TV, but they got rid of the stone beds (haven't had them for awhile, actually) and the fancy toilets that squirt hot water up your bum. Those were cool, I loved them when I was in Japan, but come on, who wants to buy that with a package of shabu-shabu beef and a few bitter melons? The expanded section for prepared Korean foods rocks, except for the bulgogi. Don't get it! It had a lot of chewy connective tissue in it when I tried it--yuck! But the jeyuk (barbecued pork) was good, and the fried mixed dishes were delish. The sushi and sashimi were good too, and reasonably priced. Not Tokyo fare, but a good deal if you want a quick fix. What most impressed me is how much cleaner the produce and fish sections are than previously. I would actually get seafood here now, but even when I go in mid-morning there's usually a wait so I don't. But if I ever get there and there's no wait, I'm getting a bunch of stuff to try it. The staff in this section seem very friendly and efficient. The prices were always good here, but now, with the really great upgrade, this place is such a bargain. This was really money well spent by the owners. I think this is a big reason that both 99 Ranch AND the market in Plaza Fiesta closed! Who would go there when you can get everything, and more here? The only thing I miss is the fresh duck and pork from the spot in 99 Ranch, but as near as I know you can still get them at Hoa Binh a little closer to town, and at the Super H-mart in Duluth. One advisory: it gets VERY crowded on weekends, so try weekdays. I go on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and have no problem with low levels of produce or other items, although I've noticed the section in produce with the noodles and pre-fried tofu products is more well-stocked on weekends. This is about the only place I know to get pre-fried slabs and cubes of tofu, so I make the effort when I really want them. They freeze well, so if you like them too, just stock up on a Saturday AM and enjoy at your leisure . more

Most Magical Place in the World...or atleast in the Atlanta area 3/6/2009

The Buford Highway Farmer's Market is easily my very favorite Saturday morning trip. I'm not even a cook but I love the selection of food they have, it is truly amazing. They even have a little restaurant at the front of the store where you can get very, very authentic Mexican food, as well as a huge bakery in the back right corner that produces perfect treats. This place is over twenty minutes away from where I call home but the time it takes to get there is nothing compared to the time you can spend there. If you do decide to take the trip (and it's SO worth it) don't be afraid to try all the ""strange"" foods you'll find, basically everything is delicious and they have very, very low prices. Pros: It's the love of my life. Cons: It's not next door to my house... it's an issue. more

SO GLAD I WENT BACK 12/26/2008

I'd gone to this market before about two or three years ago and wasn't really that impressed. I needed some items for a Thai recipe this time and thought I would have to order it off line because it was hard to find. I saw this website and read the reviews and decided I would go since I thought I had not been here before. Well, I went and it was the same place that I had gone to before. If you hadn't been to this market in a while you probably won't recognize it. They are are in the process of getting a face lift and it looks very good. All the trash in the parking lot is practically gone. The inside is very very clean and there isn't any smelly fish smell when you walk in. I was very very impressed!!!. Everything is so well organize as if they take pride in their store. If you are looking for something and they don't have it then it probably doesn't exist. Please keep up the good work BUFORD HWY FARMERS MARKET!!!! It is worth the trip. Pros: They have everything you could possibly want. Cons: The American food appears to be higher than the foreign food compared to the american grocery stores. Tha't's fine though. I can always go to Kroger for that. more

Best International Grocery 12/9/2007

I was driving down Buford hwy after unsuccessfully finding what I needed at an Asian grocery down the street and almost looked over this. I am glad I stopped in. They had a better selection and better prices than the place I had tried earlier and I was able to find a few things that I hadn't been able to find at the Asian grocery. I'll definitely be back when I have some time to look around and figure out some truly interesting dishes. You can forget about online ordering and finding specialty grocery stores: this place has everything from around the world with better selection and better prices. Pros: Selection, Price, Organization Cons: none, really. It could be closer to my house but thats more a problem with me than the store. more

A great find! 12/4/2007

This is my favorite place to go shopping... great produce, 100s of fresh fish to try, and various aisles with different ethnicity food. Go there and try something new, for a great price. Great source for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Latin American food. Only downside is they don't cover middle eastern or Indian very well. more

One of the best farmer's markets around atlanta! 8/7/2007

I LOVE this place! I can find all kinds of food items that anyone would be hard pressed to find in any popular grocery or supermarket. They have a HUGE array of fresh produce; even stuff I've never heard of! I really like that they categorize the ethnicity of the foods as well as the types of food. It makes the shopping experience SO much easier. The prices are quite competitive and comparable for the most part. The only down side is the outside looks a bit shabby , especially the parking lot. But I have to say, maybe it's one of atlanta's best kept secrets. If they spruced up the outside then maybe it would generate too much traffic (more than is there already) and then maybe prices would be compromised and it would become too commercialized. So if I have to put up with a below par exterior to get good value on the goods, then so be it. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who likes or needs foods from most anywhere in the world. Pros: value, availability and variety of items, close to expressway I-285, categorized aisles makes finding items easier Cons: outside is left wanting, crowded more

Awesome Market 7/16/2007

What a great surprise! I was going to the Dekalb Farmer's Market every Sunday 'til someone at work reccomended the Buford Highway Farmer's Market. The fruit and vegetables are wonderful and the prices are fantastic. The seafood, fish, shrimp, crab is amazing. They have wonderful prepared sushi and kimbap, lots of good prepared Korean foods. My only complaint is the parking lot, very trashy. If you judge by the outside, you'll leave. I wish they would clean it up. It's also crowed like the DeKalb Market but it's worth it. Pros: Variety and Price Cons: Parking lot is trashy. more

HUGE variety of international products! 5/6/2006

We love the Buford Highway Farmer's Market. There are aisles for every ethnic cuisine, and tons of pre-packaged (read: junk) food from all over the world. The frozen food section is huge. We always come here to stock up on fresh cheese, produce, and our favorite international candies and cookies. Where else in the city can you find coke bottled in Mexico? Nowhere. Check out the dishes, accessories and appliances too. This is a great place to find an unusual gift. Saturday is free sample day! Pros: HUGE Selection, Free samples, Unusual items Cons: Crowds more
