Having just moved to the area, the locals at work insisted we visit this establishment. Well, when we got there, we had to drive a round and around trying to find parking - which is non-existent in the area.
We finally got thru the door and the entrance is so tiny, and people were just standing in the way, first impression was not good. We put out name in, were told about a 15 minutes wait (there were 2 of us) and we could wait outdoor or at the bar. Had no idea where the bar was. Finally found the bar and was ""greeted"" by a less than enthusiastic bartender, who even though he was from my hometown had a crappy attitude and made no effort to make us feel welcome as new residents.
.In about 10 minutes (good) we were called for out table. Turned out to be a 2 seater that was as tiny as those circus cars the clowns get out of. In fact the whole place seemed like a clowns home. ""Memorabilia"" and old toys everywhere. The lighting where we were was so bad you couldn't even see what the stuff was. And hot? No air circulation at all.
Onto the food, our waitress came and asked what we wanted. Didn't tell us about the nightly special (we only heard about them when she told a table near us about 20 minutes later). For all the raves you read about the service, let's say Sonic does a better job!
We had initially gone there as my friends suggested their burgers - well guess what, we got there too late and had to choose off the dinner menu which seems a little pricey. But what the heck - we were hungry.
My son ordered the pasta which wasn't bad, but not great for $20. I chose the bacon wrapped filet @ $29. When presented, it looked like one of those vacuum packed steaks with e 1/16"" piece of bacon around the perimeter. Most filets I have had (1000's) have been a sizable hand cut chuck of meat - this one was a production run cut - perfectly cut by some machine. I asked initially for medium and was told that it would be extremely pink, chose med-well and it came in awefully close to well done. Oh well, it's a filet - I'll eat it. Not up to snuff on tenderness or taste, but I was hungry..
The PR for this joint says generous portions - ha! The salad barely covered a 4"" salad plate. The veggie's amounted to about 10 pieces. I will say the baked potato was good. A double baked without all the junk.
The often heralded breads - so - so. Nothing to write home about.
Didn't try the desserts, but saw them - yes, they're big portions, but so what, Just bake a cake yourself and eat the whole thing if you want a large portion. There was nothing too adventuresome on the dessert menu that I haven't seen elsewhere.
In our visit we saw about 20 sq. ft of this place so I can't really rate the ambiance. But from what I saw, my recent garage sale had more interest to it than this place. Maybe if you've never seem a fake Santa, this is the place for you. But for food, an Angus Burger from McDonalds was just as good as my steak.
Will I go there again, EXTREMELY doubtful - only if someone else is paying.
