Overview
For nearly four decades, Corolla has been synonymous with Toyota quality, style and value, earning the distinction of being one of the most trusted cars in America. The 2008 model continues the tradition, with three model grades offered: the well-equipped CE, the sporty S, and the top-of-the-line LE. The roomy and comfortable 2008 Corolla offers an EPA-estimated mileage of 35 mpg during highway driving.
Engine and Performance
The Corolla's sophisticated dual overhead cam (DOHC),1.8-liter, four-cylinder engine produces 126 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 122 pound-feet of peak torque at 4,200 rpm. Toyota's advanced variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i) gives the Corolla engine a lively feel by optimizing power delivery through the entire speed range. Equipped with a standard five-speed manual transmission, the Corolla can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just under nine seconds.
Body and Styling
The Corolla offers a quiet and smooth ride, but is nimble at the same time as a result of the super-stiff body structure, the refined suspension tuning, and the standard variable-assist, power, rack-and-pinion steering. Design detailing contributes to the overall high-value feel. The exterior door handles are color-keyed to the body, while the steering wheel and dashboard are coordinated with the upholstery. Both S and LE grades have, in addition, an AM/FM/CD sound system with six speakers; map lights; and color-keyed body-side moldings as standard.
Safety Features
Standard safety technology includes advanced front air bags; pretensioners and force limiters for front seatbelts; and side-impact door beams. Front seat-side and curtain air bags, and an anti-lock brake system with electronic brake-force distribution are optional for all model grades. The rear seat is equipped with lower anchors and tethers for children (Latch) and a uniform child restraint anchorage system.
