The Brown Center of Lamar State College-Orange, with its classic simplicity, presents a version of the Colonial period, one truly out of the ordinary. Architecturally The Brown Center is an achievement, both in strength and grace, that only a professional of note might have planned. It refrains from boastful showiness, and it dignifies freedom in a way that appeals to good taste. The Brown Center rests comfortably with dignity and stateliness, surrounded by an 88-acre garden and situated in the tall pines and abundant azaleas of southeast Texas. The Brown Center encompasses nearly 20,000 square feet with 14 rooms, including six bathrooms, two foyers and a three-car garage. The visitor's first view of the interior of the house is an entry foyer of unusual beauty. A lariat-laced stairway winding through a woodland mural greets each guest.
