Had I written this review last year at this time, I would have had nothing but glowing testimonials for the place. Even despite the occasional bat that finds its way inside and has the place ducking for cover.
Brothers is a medium-sized place, very retro and homey, with pool and a great bar, and a jukebox full of old punk and new rock. It's staff are hip and friendly, and the drinks....oh, man. The drinks. It's one of (if not THE only) the only places in town to serve absinthe, in fact, if that tells you anything.
Lately, however, it's been slipping a bit --a product of its own popularity, actually. Being as close as it is to Saddle Creek, and given its casual hip-ness, the whole Bright-Eyes-Worshipping, white-belt-wearing, flippy-bangs-having crowd has started invading on a mass scale. Where it was once a bunch of weirdo alternative types, it's now full of so much Saddle Creek-ness that the tenor of it's changing, especially on Saturday nights. It's losing itself and becoming almost self-conscious in its punk roots. (Fridays, it seems to be a bit better; less hip and more itself.)
Despite this unfortunate turn of events, I'd still recommend this bar over most of the rest of the Omaha establishments. For the drink specials and variety of choices, first and foremost.
But the jukebox helps, too.
