I have eaten here on many occasions while living in Reno. From Thanksgiving to Christmas dinner, client meetings and when I really want to treat myself.
The food has been above par for this price point. I have had good service to out of this world service on various visits. The wait staff are judgmental as on occasion I was a little down dressed and my service suffered because of it. But that was my fault for not dressing up. At times like when I at on Thanksgiving a few years back, the service frankly was pathetic, but no place it perfect. If you think there is such a place your delusional or not very demanding. Personally I am very demanding when I plunk down $100 per person. And usually Bricks is a good solid bet on service.
The wine list at times has been better than others, but over the years the list has remained plentiful, but not exceptional. Personally if they had a decent solmonier on staff I am betting they would do more high end business. The regular staff has little clue of wines beyond what a good waiter already know from experience. In short their wine/food pairing is embarrassing. Not to say that the list doesn't have good picks, just that the wait staff doesn't really know what to recommend.
Each meal I have eaten has been very good to exceptional. Not once have I found but the slightest fault, but that is to be expected. Other so called four diamond restaurants down the street are inferior in my opinion.
For a restaurant to get this price point, it better have excellent coffee. Every time I have eaten here the desserts and coffee course have been exquisite.
Bricks is my recommendation for high end in Reno. If you demand an exclusive wine list, there are better at a few casinos in town. In my opinion decorum is more important than convenience.
Why not a five star? Only one restaurant I have ever eaten has been so good at value, service, food quality and many other criteria, that I think it deserves five stars and they are at a much lower price point. Quite frankly if they had 4 1/2 stars Bricks would get that, but not a full five stars, sorry. At this price point you simply expect a certain level of quality and service and they are not that perfect. You get that level and a bit more, so don't get me wrong Bricks is my favorite, I' just not that loose with a five star rating.
Pros: Dessert and Coffee
Cons: Service on occasion / So so wine list
