Treating animals like their family members and taking care of them is the greatest thing you can do to help. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals claim to have the same agenda. From their website, they quote ""We at PETA very much love the animal companions who share our homes, but we believe that it would have been in the animals' best interests if the institution of ""pet keeping""?i.e., breeding animals to be kept and regarded as ""pets""?never existed."" How can you claim to want to HELP animals when you believe they should not be in homes? For over 15,000 years dogs have been domesticated and are considered to be man's best friend, but this should have never happened according to the statement above. They have radical ideas and radical solutions to how they should keep animals safe. Being affiliated with ALF, on America's Terrorism List, they have defaced people's clothing, stores, and even to the point of setting fire to laboratories trying to find cures for human diseases. There are many ways of helping animals, donating items to local shelters or the ASPCA. Donating your time to working with the animals and making them more socially fit for society. Why is it that judgement gets clouded by big ""groups"" but people can't manage to see the bigger picture? Harassing farms, people who eat meat, wear leather or have pets is a violation of the 1st Amendment. We are able to chose what we do, where we do it, and how we do it by this amendment, but harassment of certain businesses or choices are taking away that right to express yourself. Non-violent, peaceful demonstrations are acceptable to the government, but to what extent? Two employees of PETA were caught in 2007 dumping dead dogs and cats into a North Carolina Dumpster, claiming they ""only kill very sick dogs and cats"". However during their trail statements were made that PETA killed healthy, adoptable, near perfect animals. People who helped PETA obtain the animals were told by PETA that they ""shouldn't have a problem at all finding homes"", however many of the dogs taken in where later destroyed, with PETA secretly disposing of the bodies. Seeing both sides of the fence will help you in making up your own mind about PETA or other animal ""rights"" groups. PETA is supposed to help and save lives, not destroy them, they are supposed to help people help the animals, not take advantage of them.
Hopefully this will help shed some light on the matter.
