Besides the Dunkin Donuts down the street, Breaking New Grounds is one of the only place to get coffee to go in town. With a good selection of coffee flavors and options, there's something for everyone. When its warm enough there's tables to sit outside and people watch while you drink your coffee. They have a frequent buyers club, so if you go a lot make sure to pick up a little card and get it punched with each cup! more

Really good coffee and gelato (in summer), great location 8/13/2005

Breaking New Grounds is located on Main Street near the intersection with Mill Pond Rd. The coffee is great - not horribly strong like Starbucks. In the summer they serve excellent gelato, but the selection is unpredictable (they occasionally run out of chocolate, which is my favorite). My biggest complaint is the cleanliness of the cream/stir stick station for coffee - the jars which hold the stir sticks regularly appear to be quite dirty. They offer a frequent coffee-buyer card which is convenient and a good incentive to return. Also a good place to dine outside and bring your dog. more

Great coffee and desert 8/12/2005

this place is right in downtown durham. you can always see this place full of people drinking coffe, reading books chatting etc. they have got a variety of coffee options as well as a good dessert menu. The price range is average. the ambience is pretty good. all in all a nice place ..i would recommend going there and having some nice coffee along with your harry potter. :) more
