Bow Wow & Meow's

Love this place! My husband and I lived in Fairmount from 2010-2012. Even though we no longer live in the city, we continue to drive 40 minutes to take our dog, Teddy (a bichon/shi tzu), to Bow Wow & Meows. Kathy and her staff are really wonderful! You can tell how much they care for animals, and how careful they are with every dog or cat they groom. Kathy has managed to fit us into an already tight schedule multiple times, and has even been able to move Teddy up to accommodate our schedule. She also does a great job at making Teddy feel at ease; he used to get very anxious at the groomer, but he loves going to Bow Wow.\r \r Kathy and the staff are so friendly and committed to their customers. It's always a pleasure to take Teddy here. We'll definitely continue to make the drive! more

I took my briard there for grooming. They were very professional and took him right back. They did a great job of brushing out the mats in his long hair. He smelled great when I picked him up. They were reasonably priced for a full grooming of a large dog. I would absolutely recommend them. more

We have been using Kathy and her friendly staff for about 2 years and we absolutely love them! Our dog, Norman, is a bichon/shih tzu mix so his fur can get very unruly. They do an excellent job grooming him and each time, he comes out looking cuter than ever. \r \r Not only does the experienced staff do a great job grooming Norman but he loves to see them when I bring him in. This is important to me because I know that when I leave him in Kathy's hands, I don't have to worry. Prior to finding Kathy, Norman would literally pull away from me on his leash and try to run the opposite direction as we approached the door of other grooming salons. Not the case with Bow Wow and Meow's. He walks right through the door with me and is perfectly content.\r \r I have tried other pet salons and I have yet to find one that does as superb a job as Bow Wow and Meow's. Kathy and her courteous staff do such an amazing job that you and your pet will not leave unhappy. more

I brought my Persian cat Dolce to get a lion cut at Bow Wow and Meow's and he looks so cute. He was a giant puff ball, and despite my attempts at daily brushing, Dolce had lots of mats. Kathy scheduled me within 24hours. Dolce was very calm throughout the entire experience. Alex spoke so kindly to him while clipping his fur and nails. They left him with his beautiful mane, furry lower legs and a pretty flame on the end of his tail. Now he can keep himself nice and clean -- which makes both of us happy. The groomers work out in the open -- no taking your animal out of sight. The Meow part of Bow Wow and Meows is for real. These folks know kitties. I also watch two Shitzus being groomed - both came out beautifully and happy. If you love your animals, take them here. more

We travel from Norristown to bring Shuga, our 7-year old standard poodle, to Bow Wow & Meow's. Previously we had taken her to three other grooming salons in the Norristown area and, although Shuga is very sweet and compliant, she had negative experiences with all of them (ex. a cut on her paw, spending numerous hours in a crate waiting to be groomed, spoken to in a harsh voice); consequently, she was extremely frightened to be left at the groomers. When our daughter and son-in-law, who also have a standard poodle, moved to the Fairmount section of the city several years ago, they raved about Bow Wow and encouraged us to give them a try. It was really one of the best doggie care decisions that we could have made. Both Kathy and Amy are absolutely terrific with Shuga and miraculously, Shuga now loves to go to the groomers (no slinking with her tail between her legs and pulling back on the leash). As a matter of fact, when we tell her in the morning that she is going to see Kathy and Amy to get groomed, she wags her tail and eagerly trots out to the car. It is so worth the drive -- Shuga is happy, she always looks absolutely beautiful and they pay special attention to her problem ears. Kathy is also more than willing to accomodate our schedule. Plus the location is very convenient -- within walking distance of the Phila Art Museum and many interesting restaurants. And best of all, Bow Wow has treats not only for the doggies for also for the chocoholic customers -- my husband is often so busy deciding which treat(s) he should select for himself that he ignores Shuga, who is patiently waiting for her reward. Try it -- your doggie will thank you. more

My husband and I used to live around the corner from the shop, a year and a half ago we bought a house in the suburbs. We have tried roughly about 3 different grooming establishes near our home- no one comes close!!!! After many SCRAY experiences at the grooming shops near our home…enough was enough, we needed BOW WOW! Today I gladly made the 45 minute drive into and out of the city to bring our two Pomeranians and lab/hound mix to the spa. Kathy takes such good care of them!!! They always come out looking super adorable (and smelling WONDERFUL). She is always sure to specify EXACTLY what you want done in the grooming process. I always feel comfortable leaving them with Kathy which is one of the best parts!! I know they are safe, well cared for, and having an enjoyable grooming experience. I have a VERY hectic work schedule and she is always FABULOUS getting them in sometimes the same day or with a days notice!!! You can see the dogs being groomed from the waiting area…they are not taken to some back room like some places. If you are like me, my dogs are like my children….and you wouldn’t leave your children with anything than the best, right?! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Her prices are also very reasonable. My dog ,Valentine, has had some unpleasant experiences being bathed and trimmed in the past. She and I are VERY lucky to have found Kathy and her assistant, Amy, who take special care with her and give her a stellar haircut and bath!! more

I've always had a good feeling when leaving my bulldog at Bow Wow Meow. One of the things that makes me feel this way is when we walk up to the front door he starts to get excited and actually paws to go in. This reassures me that Kathy takes good care of him after I leave.\r \r The price is more then fair. Also having a bulldog who loves to get dirty, Kathy really takes good care him. He gets his ears cleaned, his nails clipped and smells great when he leaves. I don't know what products they use on him but he smells good for much longer then I would have thought.\r \r Kathy's staff has always been courteous and friendly and you get the feeling that they like their jobs. I feel fortunate to have Bow Wow Meow in the neighborhood, but would also travel to take my dog here.\r \r I highly recommend Kathy and Bow Wow Meow.\r Pros: Kathy and her staff are tremendous more

Buffy took an instant affection to Kathy, the owner and chief groomer. Kathy is also nice to me, Buffy's mom. Kathy is willing to schedule groomings on my schedule, weekends included. I'm a happy customer. Pros: Super nice groomer Cons: n/a more

I would have to disagree with the post about the phone call. Kathy has never been rude and has always been very understanding. I would never patronize an establishment that discriminates and I would say that in all the years that I've had my dog groomed there, there has never been any inclination of any discrimination of any kind. We have been taking our dog there ever since we came back to the city almost 3 years ago. The grooming is always extremely well done and Kathy and her other groomer [Amy I believe] are very friendly and professional. The shampoo they use is a wonderful oatmeal shampoo with a great fragrance. It's a least 3 weeks after the grooming before even a hint of ""doggy"" smell. I have been taking my dogs to Bow Wow Meow for 3 years now... Kathy and her staff are great and my dogs always come back looking amazing! The negative post below is completely untrue. Kathy is extremely friendly and personable to my partner and I every time we go in there. I don't know why someone feels the need to ask if a business in Philadelphia is gay-friendly, but Bow Wow Meow is definitely far from homophobic. I would recommend this place without reservation to anyone! more

We take our dogs to Kathy and Amy. They are really nice to animals and humans! Our dogs try to get in the door even when we're walking past the shop. Thats how stress free they are going there. They do a great job too! Pros: fairmount location! Cons: None that we can see! more

Bow Wow& meow is the best grooming salon that i have gone to the staff is so people /dog friendly the salon is bright and cozy with a freash clean odor it really make's you feel that you would not want to take your pet anywere els and i also like how they let the dogs walk around, the hair cuts are beautiful so hats off and paw up to Bow WOw& meow . My dog is a wirefox terrier and had a really bad experience being ""stripped"". However, at Bow Wow Meow, kathy, the owner is superfriendly and accomodating. Alex, who strips my dog does a great job. They truly love dogs and the place is immaculate for a dog grooming salon. It's a great find. more

I have a golden retriever who likes to swim and roll. She love to roll in the grass, sand and dirt, usually after swimming. I was happy to see BW&M's sign 2 years ago while walking home with a particularly wet, muddy dog. We stopped in and an instant bond was formed. We have been going to BW&M ever since. Emily loves going to get her bath, a huge change from when I did it at home. Kathy and her staff are wonderful and attentive with all that come through the door. My dog likes it so much, even if we are not going to BW&M, she stops at the front door. Whether you are taking advantage of the full grooming or just getting your furry friend a bath, everyone is treated in a friendly professional manner. There were some staffing issues, which Kathy has since rectified. Making appointments is easy as Kathy goes out of her way to accomodate your schedule. I usually cancel at least once before getting in and Kathy always works around my schedule. We are loyal BW&M fans! Pros: Friendly, clean business Cons: Parking if you don't live in the area. more

Very pleased with our experiences at BW&M. Our puppies first grooming experience was at another groomer and was a travesty. She was frightened when we picked her up and her cut was nothing like we wanted. On the other hand my pup's experience with Kathy, Alex and staff has been excellent. She has trouble leaving when I pick her up and wants to go inside when ever we walk by. My terrier needs to be stripped and they are willing to do the cut you request. I love miss kathy for a three reasons, first it is tough to find a groomer who hand strips terrier dogs in the city, and it is nice to be able to drop my baby off, go shopping and not have to spend a million dollars on both the grooming and gas getting there. second, because i walked in on her without her knowledge and she was actually singing to my dog... and just as she promised he wasnt in a cage. Third, they knew what my dog was and better what he is SUPPOSED to look like. your a better groomer than a singer miss kathy! I LOVE taking my dog to Bow Wow and Meows Salon. Its a cute, non pretentious place where they truley love animals. They are very busy and the place is so clean and calm.
