Great gym and Atmosphere 6/3/2012

This gym has always been my second home. I have taken classes here since I was a wee preschooler and am now on team until I graduate in a year. The gym itself is one of the best in the area boasting all the standardized equipment for both mens and womens gymnastics, including 12 beams, 2 square trampolines, a tumble tramp and the double mini (about 5 by 2). The gym also has 2 foam pits, 2 floors (1 springed, one not), a super springy tumble strip and natural lighting. Parents are able to watch through bay windows. I have been coaching here for 2 years and all of the coaches I have had and work with are energetic people who are here because they love gymnastics. Coaches like to push the students but not until the kids break. I love coming here for my own practice as well as to coach. Preschool classes(2.5-5 yrs) are taught in co-ed groups of 6 divided by ages. There is one coach per group and they meet once a week and work basic skills on all aparatus. Beginning girls/boys are evaluated by skill on the first day of class and are divided by skill level into groups of about 12 and are taught by 2 teachers. Pre-team, Intermediate team and Advanced team are all try out only and compete in Rocky Mountain League and USAG. The team typically forms close bonds with each other making the gym a grreat place for the girls and boys to have fun while getting stronger. Team kids also have the additional opportunity for open gym which is available from 3-8 on mondays -Thursdays for free. Open gym is available on Saturdays from 1-3 and costs $8. Aprox. 8 coaches work open gym and no private coaches or parents are allowed in the gym. Open to ages 6-18. Birthday parties are available on Sunday afternoons and are staffed by 2 coaches and are not to teach new skills but to play on trampolines and the pit. Coaches are great, location is great, gym is great, kids are great! more

Boulder Flyers Rox!!!!!! 1/13/2010

The Flyers are awesome!!! The coaches are really nice and push you but not so hard that it doesn't become fun. They also have a lot of options for gymnasts who are ahead or more expirenced. There are 3 main levels of the more advanced gymnastics. There is Beginning team, Intermidiate, which has levels 4-6, and advanced which has levels 7-10. Then there's also pre-team, beginning girls, which has levels 123, and preschool classes. I've gone to another gym but nothing beats The Flyers more

Lifelong learning 2/12/2009

I did gymnastics in the Boulder Flyers gymnastics program for about 7 years in the early 90's. I can't do flips anymore, but many things I learned have stuck with me today. more

My daughter loves doing gymnastics here! 11/28/2005

My pre-team daughter says, "it has a relaxed atmosphere, great coaches who make you work hard and are nice at the same time, and don't do things that will eventually hurt your body." My daughter was at a local private gym for 8 years before switching to North because the other gym would not work with her on resolving a coaching issue, nor would they communicate with me about training goals, evaluations, etc. It wasn't easy for my daughter to make the switch but once she did her enthusiasm for gymnastics soared. The girls have evaluations at the beginning of every session in "beginning girls" and the girls close to preteam have them at the end of every session. When the girls make preteam they have regular evaluations with feedback on which skills need improvement, and how to make those improvements. The City redid the North Boulder Rec center a few years ago and apparently the doubled the size of the gymnastics space. It is quite large with adequate tramps, bars, beams, rings, two pits and good floor space. There are windows for observation but they aren't distracting to the gymnasts- a very recent improvement was replacing the metal bleachers with much more comfortable seating. The team competes USGA and does quite well. Beginning competitors compete in the Rocky Mountain League. The progression to pre-team and team is very clear which wasn't the case at the other gym. My only objections as a parent are the lack of secure storage space for gymnast's personal items outside of the gym, a lack of weekend open gym time and no opportunity to have a gymnastics birthday party there. We can do open gym at other gyms in Boulder and Broomfield, but I wish there was some system of rotation allowing participants to do open gym at least monthly at their home gym. My daughter is happy with the open gym times allowed her once someone is on preteam or above, but I would appreciate the opportunity for a weekend time. more
