Very nice for an afternoon stroll 4/8/2006

I love the botanical gardens in Birmingham. They have lots of flowers, and even different "settings". My favorite is the Japanese area. It really makes you feel like you are in a different place. These gardens are fantastic not only for the variety of flowers, but because they have other great things, too. You can sit down on a bench for a while, take some really great photography, and eat in their restaurant. I've even seen some weddings here. Best of all, admittance is free! more

Pretty flowers! 1/6/2006

Located just across the street from the Zoo, this is a great place to take a stroll on a sunny day. They have a variety of flowers to look at, all in a very casual woodsy setting. This would be the perfect place to get that outdoor picture made, as there are several perfect spots for background imagery. They also have a restaurant inside the main building. more

Beautiful World Class Facility 12/2/2005

This is the most beautiful relaxing place in all of the Birmingham, Alabama area. The Japanese garden area is my favorite area in the gardens. They have multi-sections featuring plants from various sources. There is an herbal section and a rose section. This is a beautiful location for professional photographers. The gardens offer classes for school age children during the summer months. There is a restaurant and gift shop. No admission fee. more

Casual Outing 9/19/2005

The Botanical Gardens is located in Birmingham, just off of Hwy in 280 in Mountain Brook, near the Birmingham Zoo. It is a wondeful day to spend a "lazy casual day". It is a nice stroll through nature, beautiful flowers, landscaping, etc. Their are wonderful photo opps for beautiful family portraits or engagement photos. more

The Botanical Gardens is a lovely place to visit. It's located in Birmingham and just across from the Birmingham Zoo. Its a nice place to visit and see the beautiful flowers. The have a wonderful resturant there as well. Their huge green house is home to hundreds of plants that can be seen around the world. Many brides choose to have there weddings there as well. more

A truly beautiful place 8/16/2005

Located on the line between Mountain Brook and Birmingham, the Botanical Gardens offer a wide range of ecospaces with related vegetation, including a formal flower garden, a Japanese garden, an Alabama woodland, a Bog with wetland habitats, and considerably more than I have just listed. There is a neat walkway throughout all of this, for the most part baby-stroller-friendly. The total walking distance generally seems like about 1 mile, but it does not feel like a "powerwalk central" which you might see in some botanical spaces such as the Arnold Arboretum in Boston. There is a restaurant but I have only eaten there for formal functions (i.e. catered) and in those instances the food was far less satisfying than the environment. Finally, for horticulture enthusiasts, it's important to note that the Gardens offer a lot of classes. more
