Super Stoked 3/29/2010

Some friends and I were driving down sunset and just came across this place. I go to Caffee Primo a lot and never realized this place was even there! The staff were all great looking people and better yet friendly and fun, you don't get that too much in LA. The tacos were great and I'm from San Diego were the mexican food is amazing. As the night went on they had a amazing DJ that kept our buzzing going with the margarita's that were only $5 for happy hour. They waitress told me they are starting karaoke on Mondays and all day happy hour!! Def gonna come back and check that out. Overall this is one of the best restaurant/ lounge bars I've been to in this area, it was def needed. Try it out!! Pros: margaritas, food, music, beautiful people more

... Room to Improve 1/31/2010

Came here this past Saturday night a little after 9 wanting a table for six. The restaurant was half empty, yet I was told my group would have to wait an hour to be seated. Ooookay. No worries. I asked if we could sit at the bar, and the hostess said sure. We go to the back, and there's a birthday party, so there's nowhere to sit. We were ok with standing, however, a lot of the food apparently comes from the bar area, so if you stand, you're in the way. After waiting around for ten minutes, our group finally got fed-up and walked down the street to the Red Rock. I get really turned off by restaurants that treat customers badly just for the hype (especially in the first few weeks of being open). If we're interested in your restaurant, and your tables are open, what's the problem? It will take a lot for me to go back and give it another try. more

mixed emotions 1/30/2010

I really hope this place works out. we really have no mexican restaurants in this area so i'd love to see it flourish. i came here with a large group on friday night. first off our waiter Greg was pretty chill. pleasant, made good menu suggestions and took really good care of us. i found it weird that the owner Tony came up to our table and totally bad mouthed greg to us and talked down to him at one point. that in itself is unacceptable. drinks were good, yea it took a while to get them but hey it was busy. food was tasty and dirt cheap so i'll come back for it. tony just has to realize as guests we're not stupid and pick up on negative energy. we'll see how things transpire. Pros: happy hourS/ live dJ Cons: new place many problems to work on more

Great before concert restaurant 1/30/2010

Had a quick and easy dinner before a concert on Friday night. We shared the chile relleno and some tacos. Loved the relleno and the short rib tacos. They have some interesting taco choices. Inexpensive small plates, so you can choose more than one flavor. Margaritas hit the spot. Service was good. We were in and out of there in an hour.....perfect timing for our show. DJ was fun and put us in the mood. Want to go back and dry the happy hour. It's priced right! Pros: fun atmosphere, dj, drinks, tacos more

  • The latest restaurant by longtime Los Angeles restauranteur Tony Riviera (Caffe Primo), Borracho Cantina hopes to lure the post work crowd in West Hollywood with nine big screen televisions, a huge patio and two daily happy hours--both afternoon and late night. Food here runs the gamut from mild (chicken mole tamales) to wild (check the unbelievably spicy shrimp tacos, a steal at just $4). All entress here aim for a serious upscale Mexican dining experience, even though the sleek space could easily be adapted into a nightclub (and during happy hour you might be forgiven if you think you are at a nightclub). With over 100 different tequilas behind the bar, you really can't go wrong here for a great margarita. Stick to classics such a their $10 ancho chicken quesadilla (monterey jack, cheddar, onions, cilantro, poblano crema) and you will leave happy. And make sure to leave room for desert: Borracho's tres leche cake ($6) is as good as it gets in this part of Los Angeles. Bottom line? A festive (and just sophisticated enough) choice for upscale Mexican on the Sunset Strip.
