This is just to the person who was complaining about his "credits." Are you an idiot? Seriously. You take off for an extended period of time and don't even bother to tell the owner of the store that you'll be back to redeem your credits? You obviously didn't care that much. I'm just amazed at your own stupidity. You shouldn't complain about something that's your own fault. more

Don't Leave your Books with these Thieves! 8/13/2007

I was a happy member of the bookateria for several years while attending the University of Delaware as a student, and over this period dropped off many of my science fiction/fantasy paperbacks with them for credit. Limited dorm room space necessitated maintaining a small bookshelf. I accumulated approximately $390 in credit, with roughly 30 scifi credits (I traded in hundreds of SF/F books, to purchase a scifi book with your $ creds you need scifi creds on a one-one basis). Eventually I graduated, and left Newark for another part of the state where I had found employment. About 3 years later I stopped by the Bookateria, looking forward to redeeming more of my (presumably still valid) credits, only to be told that my card was no longer on file and that the hundreds of dollars worth of credit I had with them would not be honored. It wasn't that they had lost it... They unabashedly informed me that they had purged their files as a matter of routine, assuming that I (and presumably other accounts) had left Newark never to return. There is no policy posted in the store about credits "expiring" after a certain period. I left hundreds of dollars worth of paperbacks with these people in good faith, fully expecting that my credits would be valid in perpetuity. My recommendation would be to avoid this store at all costs, but if you simply must trade with them, only accumulate as much credit as you need each visit, because if you don't return right away it's likely to vanish! more

They have got it all 8/14/2005

Shelf after shelf of books from all kinds of categories, messy piles of books strewn everywhere, a somewhat cranky curmudgeon behind the counter, and LOW, CHEAP prices! Did I mention the categories? Fiction, Theatre, Mythology, Native American, WWII, Economics, Radical Politics, etc, a selection of books in Russian, Spanish, French, and German and his section of Art and Photography books is absolutely phenomenal. more

Nice place for a bookworm 8/11/2005

They have a wide variety of books - ranging from mythology to modern science. They have a standard pricing technique. They do not offer too many discounts. I usually go here to just browse through the numerous volumes of books they have got in their shelves. They have a good marketing strategy too. They attract customers by handing out leaflets in the neighboring areas. Thats how I came to know about them. They do good business, but if they did offer some discounts, i guess, they would be doing great business. more
