my new favorite place 7/14/2010

My sister loves this place, so she dragged me here together with my friend. We were delighted by the quality of food and excellence of service provided to us. I loved the flavorful taste of their food. It definitely pacified our cravings. more

Just Ok 6/20/2010

I'm on the search for GREAT Mexican food. Came here b/c the reviews looked promising. We went off the waitresses recommendations, which I usually think are the way to go...these people know what is ordered most and have sampled a large portion of the menu. Beef Barbacoa taco- was rich and meaty and pretty darn tasty. Camarones- were saturated in a cream, sweet sauce that was so thick you couldn't even taste the Shrimp, it was disgusting. I tried to scrape off some of the sauce and it didn't do much good. What's the point of ordering good shrimp if it's doused in cream? Would not recommend this place, but if I was forced to come here again I'd just order the Beef Barbacoa. Pros: Beef Barbacoa Cons: Everything Else more

Spicy cocktail? You had us at Hello! 4/19/2010

At the recommendation of Editor Jonathan Baker, I recently hit Bone Garden for a happy hour and gave their spicy chile margarita a try. Holy moly. It's one part sweet, one part tropical, one part spicy. And for a spice-happy guy, it was a match made in heaven. I wanted four. Right now. On the food end, go with their Mexican street food. Empanadas, tortas, goat tacos (or their cow tongue was good too), tamales. I love the Vortex, and this is the same people that run that place, so I knew I was going to like it before I even walked in. Sort of a weird location... but worth a trek over to the industrial west side. more

Must Try 9/7/2009

A friend and I tried Bone Garden this past weekend and it was awesome! I tried a taco, enchilada, queso and a few drink specials and enjoyed them all. Pros: Excellent food, cool vibe and good drinks more

Great Food, Killer Margaritas 8/11/2009

We finally tried Bone Garden the other day and it rocked. The patio scene was packed full of people and the food & music was great. I had the Al Pastor, which was a pork taco with pineapple, cilantro, peanut sauce, etc and the tilapia taco-- both were awesome. The decor, the vibe, the margaritas and the food were all unique and cool, even in a town full of great options. I'll be back. Pros: Patio Scene more

No Good!!! 7/14/2009

I had high hopes, but guys, it just wasn't good. From the guac to the tacos, it was all disgusting. I really don't throw that word around either, but truly, disgusting... Pros: Pretty good margarita and cute decor Cons: bad food more

This is a great little secret! 6/19/2009

We all have our favorite little Mexican place...you know, the one you go to at the drop of a hat, you walk right in, sit down and have a great priced meal, right? Well, I have finally found mine in Bone Garden Cantina! Tucked out of the way in a cool loft development, BGC brings a great atmosphere, eager staff, and some amazing dishes, and all very reasonably priced. The chciken quesadillas melt in your mouth. As a Harley rider, I especially love the Bone-Biker! Give it a try soon, before everybody knows about it! Pros: Reasonable pricing, great staff, delicious flavors Cons: Eventually will be too small more

Refreshing change, Needs a little work 6/16/2009

The food was a refreshing change from typical Mexican fare and it was spiced well. They don't hold off on the heat level and I was impressed by that. The staff were very friendly and our server (cool girl with blond hair, tattoos, and a great smile) took excellent care of our large group. Pros: Friendly Staff, Authentically spiced food, great atmosphere Cons: WEAK yet Expensive Margueritas more

Pretty Good 3/23/2009

Food was pretty good and the prices were great. I still think No Mas has the best Mexican in town. Pros: Margaritas were good Cons: Space needs to be broken in more

Great Mexican and Fun Place 2/20/2009

Since moving to Atlanta from San Diego, I have been in search of that great Southern California salsa that is so hard to find. Another former SoCal resident suggested I try Bone Garden. The decor was fabulous, the waitress charming and the food fantastic - so different than your cookie cutter meals you get at the Mexican restaurants so many of us are used to. And they made a great Texas margarita! It was so good that even though I ate lunch there, I'm taking another friend there for dinner tonight! Pros: Decor, Food, Drinks Cons: location more

Delicious food and reasonably priced 2/8/2009

Myself and a group of friends had the pleasure of dining here this past weekend and I found it to be a nice change of pace from the typical Mexican restaurant found in Atlanta. The decor is excellent but the actual size of the restaurant is a little small so if you have a large party I would definitely call in first or be prepared to wait a little at the bar. I love the a la carte style menu which gives you the chance to try a number of different things and the prices are great. By far the best chips, salsa and queso in Atlanta. Salsa is super fresh and the queso is not just a block of monterey jack cheese heated up in the microwave. The tamales are quite good (excellent filling, corn meal could have been done a tad more but still one of the best I have had in Atlanta. I would suggest the chicken over the pork (it was more flavorful). I found the best taco to be the talapia and my friend who also had the brisket agreed the fish taco was much better. My boyfriend who has had cow tongue before got the cow tongue tacos and loved them. Myself as well as a couple others at the table tried them and found it to be very tender and similar to pork. Excellent selection of signature cocktails and Margaritas and I would suggest the Partida Margarita. It is made with fresh lime juice and agave nectar instead of sweet and sour mix which really cuts down on the sweetness most margaritas have and not to mention the calories. If you are looking for something sweeter try the prickly pear. Atmosphere is great but can be a little loud so probably not the best place for a romantic date. If you are picky and only like ground beef enchiladas with red sauce and yellow cheese this is probably not the place for you. However if you like fresh authentic flavors and are ready for something new this place is an excellent find! Pros: Excellent food, reasonable prices, fun relaxed atmosphere. Cons: Size of the restaurant is a little small so there will most likely be a wait on Fri and Sat. more

ALMOST BROKE MY TOOTH 1/9/2009

I almost think 2 stars is generous. My husband and I were craving Mexican and were in the area. After finding the lines ridiculously long at Nuevo Laredo, we thought we'd give Bone Garden a try. It was a weeknight and not particularly busy. I wasn't impressed with the ambience - the metal chairs, high ceiling and cement floor made the room really loud despite the fact there were very few people dining. Decor was nice, however. We finally get our food (after waiting too long for so few people in the restaurant) and midway through one of my tacos, I bite down onto something so hard I thought I broke my tooth. Thinking it may be a bone, I pulled it out of my mouth. To my shock, it was a metal twist tie. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MEAT OF MY TACO AND COVERED IN SAUCE. A little while later the waitress came to check on us and asked how everything was. I said ""well, funny you should ask!"" I show her my little discovery and she shrieks and says ""Oh my gosh, I can't believe that happened again!"" She takes the twist tie from me and promptly walks away with no apology or explanation. Not until she came back. That's when she tells me that it's the twist tie from the bag of tortillas for the tacos and that it's happened before and that they've really been on the cooks to keep it from happening again. WHAT??? She takes off the cost of the one taco only and replaces it (which I agreed to reluctantly). The hostess/possibly manager comes and apologizes and says ""Next time you come, I'll buy you a drink."" And all I could think is ""how about buy me that drink now? WHILE I'M HERE."" Because I knew there wouldn't be a next time. I'm not making that mistake again. Perhaps I would give it a second try if they had comped my entire meal, but no such offer was made. Bad business on top of cooks who don't pay attention. Don't waste your money here. Go to Taqueria del Sol. Much better food, much better atmosphere, much better service. more

Funky Art - Delicious Food 12/12/2008

While it is ""off the beaten path"", it's not TOO far off. Walking into the restaurant, your eyes are immediately drawn to the art work -- Skeletons! Cartoonish murals of skeletons. They walls are painted a vivid deep blue, and the colorful artwork is a nice contrast. I have been a few times now, and and have tried to order something different every time (which is pretty easy to do as everything is A La Carte). However, I ALWAYS have to have one of their chicken or veggie empanadas. While they are small, they pack in the flavor. And the crust is the flakiest! My favorites menu items are: The cheese dip - creamy and spicy and just damn good! (Not the generic white cheese dip served at other Mexican joints.) It comes with a basket the freshest, crispiest chips, but I prefer to order a side of warm tortillas. Mix in a side of chorizo for something extra special. The Taco El Pastor is delicious, as well as the beef briskett enchiladas, both served in a piping hot soft tortilla. What is really nice is they don't smother everything in a tasteless red sauce -- they serve several different fresh sauces on the side. So whether you like a red salsa, a green salsa, a spicy salsa or a mild salsa, you get your pick. The ceviche is also delicious - extra limey with chunks of shrimp (but it could use a little more cilantro). Strawberry Margaritas rock! As well as the El Borracho drink - made with rum and coconut milk, among other things. Ask about beer specials. They have the domestic beers, as well as Mexican Tecate, Dos Equis, Corona, etc. Fast, friendly service was a big plus. Step outside the box and give it a try! Pros: Nice Atmosphere; Plenty of Parking; Owners On-Site; more

Westside Mexican 11/20/2008

A delightful surprise in this off-the-beaten-track location. I happen to work at King Plow Arts Center, so we're always looking for new haunts on the Westside - thank you! I met a colleague here for business but, two pitchers of margaritas later, we just ended up talking about why men can't pick up their wet towel and why Liza Minelli's eyebrows look so weird. Pros: Margaritas Cons: Location is off the beaten track more

Day of the Dead theme? More like taste of the dead. 10/15/2008

Oh, we hate to give a bad review but... Pros: Great idea Cons: Poorly executed (no pun intended) more

I prefer Taqueria 9/29/2008

Especially in light of it's close proximity to Taqueria del Sol, this new concept is a bit dissapointing. The enchilladas are great, but everything I've had has been average. I love the decor of this space, keeping in line with the Vortex theme...but it's hard to find if you don't know where you're going and has been pretty empty each time I've visited. Pros: Service has always been good. Cons: Hard to find and average flavor. more

Great service, authentic food, great prices 8/28/2008

Can't say enough good things about Bone Garden! The food is fabulous, service is fast and friendly! This is the real deal! Prices are affordable. We absolutely loved the art! When we left the man at the door (I'm assuming the owner) asked what we thought, shook our hands, and thanked us for coming in! I was pleasantly shocked. There is nowhere else like this in Atlanta! Pros: Everything more

Great paintings, decent food, lame drinks. 7/22/2008

The food is good, not worth the drive, but nice, light chips and fresh salsa. Pozole was very good, the enchilada with verde sauce was my fave. Fish taco was ok, but not outrageous. Pros: art Cons: weak drinks, in the middle of nowhere, paying for every little extra thing more
