Editorial review from Citysearch 2/13/2013

I had never had Indian food before and decided to go to Bombay House on a whim. It was DELICIOUS! The server recommended I get the lamb Tikki Masala because I was new to the cuisine. I loved it (so much in fact that I went back the next day!) My boyfriend got two of their dishes and really liked both of them as well. more

Authentic Indian Food! 10/4/2011

This place is phenominal. There are so many things to try and I love that they serve family style. There Naan bread is just unbeatable! It may seem a little expensive to some but I think it's worth every dollar. From the second you walk in the expereince is just top notch. They are kind, authentic, service is ALWAYS great, and the food is to die for! more

VERY AUTHENTIC - EXCELLENTE 6/4/2011

If you like authentic Indian food this is the place! I have traveled all over India from north to south and this place is as real as it gets. Price is very reasonable as well. The coffee is authentic but it is not served to you authentically, you will have to add the 5 pounds of sugar and cream yourself. ha ha. The service is unique and intriguing using hand held order scanners...fantastic! When my Indian colleagues are in town this is where I take them. Star of India....not so much. True Indians are very critical of their food this is the only place I have heard them agree it is authentic. Their Chicken Tikka Masala and Naan bread is out of this world more

Delicious! 3/21/2011

I love this restaurant. The food is full-flavored and substantial. The service is great, the staff is very attentive. The atmosphere is nice - dim and cozy. Thanks! more

Not very impressive 11/2/2010

The food was sort of good, but I don't know how people rave about how amazing it is. I can cook better Indian food than that at home.\r \r The worst part was the disorganized restaurant. Why does it take more than 20 minutes for someone to come take your order? All the waiters seem to like sitting at the front of the restaurant and talk all night and ignore you. more

I miss you I miss you I miss you!!! 1/31/2010

The Bombay House is the only thing in Salt Lake City worth missing. I went here probably ten times in the one short year that I was aware of it's existence. I wish I had found out about it sooner and even more, I wish I could have brought it with me back to Los Angeles. Their Basmati Rice, Bollywood Chicken and Naan was the best thing to cheer up my dreary Salt Lake City existence. The inside decor is a mix of an old Outback Steakhouse with your usual amazing Indian Bollywood touches. The lighting is dim and the smell coming from their kitchen is intoxicating. Some of the wait staff can be rude and refer to your dinner party as ""One"" or ""Two"" while impatiently taking your order, instead of the usual ""Miss"" or ""Sir"". But that's only some of the waiters. It's not enough to discourage me going back. Pros: Delicious yum yums! Cons: Service quality varies more

Worst Customer Service I've Ever Experienced 2/14/2009

Let me start out by saying that I have been to the Bombay House multiple times before this experience and have loved the food every time I have gone. That is why for this valentines day my girlfriend and I decided to go there to celebrate.\r \r After about a 45 minute wait, we were led to our seats. About 5 minutes later we were poured our waters. It was around this same time that two different families came in and were seated in our section. After about 10 more minutes, we saw the first staff member in our section since we had been poured our waters. At this point, we had been ready to order for a while and were growing impatient. It seemed that other people in our section were also waiting on various things such as drink refills, checks, etc. \r As the waiter walked into our section, he was prompted to give a check to a couple next to us, after this he went up to the two families who had been seated after us to make acknowledge them and let them know he would be right with them.\r \r About another 10 minutes passed. After about 20-25 minutes of sitting without any kind of recognition from our waiter besides a nonchalant glance toward our table (he had by now taken the orders of both families that came in after us) my girlfriend and I walked out. I have never had this kind of customer service experience before. I understand that it was valentines day and they were really busy, but I would at least expect some kind of recognition from our waiter. \r \r Oh well, as a long time customer, I can say I won't be giving my service to the Bombay House ever again. Pros: Great food Cons: Long wait, atrocious customer service more

Amazing Chicken Kurma 12/31/2008

Tasty Chicken Kurma and Garlic Naan. I like it. The service was good and fast. They kept my drink full all the time. Pros: Excellent food Cons: crowded sometimes more

Delicous & Authentic 8/8/2008

The all-male staff is efficient and friendly. They take orders using their handheld devices. Men love their gadgets! The food is the reason to go though. The Makhani is heaven! The restaurant is dimly lit and decorated with rich dark colors and lots of elephants. As a whole it's the best Indian food in Utah. Pros: Ambiance, Food, Parking, Cons: Not close enough to my house more

Delicious food, awesome service 7/22/2008

I've had Bombay House carry-out a few times, and each time I was impressed. Last night we went there on a date and I couldn't be happier with the service. The food was outstanding and the servers and hosts were so friendly. I had their Bollywood Chicken and I loved it! I highly recommend their Taj Mahal Imported Beer. Mmm'hmm.. more

Wonderful! 4/22/2008

We have eaten here many times--even with our kids, and while it isn't a 'kid' restaurant the servers have always been wonderful about helping us with the little ones. The food is wonderful, the CTM is one of my favorites anywhere, but the lamb dishes are just fastastic. The setting is beautiful and we always enjoy ourselves when we go. Pros: Service, ambience, food Cons: weird location more

best Indian Cuisine in Salt Lake 2/22/2008

What a great place to come eat! I've only tried Indian Cuisine a couple of times but this is the best Indian food that I've eaten. The service was great, we were able to take our time. I will continue come back and will recommend it to everyone more

My first taste of Indian food--and I loved it! 2/17/2008

We didn't have reservations on a Friday night-our mistake. It was a thirty minute wait for a party of seven. Not too bad considering how good the food was and how busy the restaurant was! We all tried different dishes and it was delicious. The only exception was the chicken tikki--it was quite dry. Service was a little off, we had to ask twice to get refills of our water. The beer list is also too short and they were out of three of them. I'll definitely go back. Pros: tender chicken, plenty of parking Cons: dry chicken tikki, out of most of their beers more

Best Indian Food in the State! 12/1/2007

I always enjoy going here. The food is always wonderful and the service is great. They are always have some pretty funny jokes. Try everything it's all good. I always take people here when visiting from out of town. The place is decorating wonderfully. more

Good food but dodgy customer service 12/1/2007

I concur with the reviewer below me. These folks are prejudiced against other South Asians. It's rather humorous really. I am Indian. I went there with my wife and they never acknowledged me, instead choosing to converse and take the order from my wife (she is half white & japanese). However, we did enjoy the food though, I would recommend the chicken tikka masala and naan. Pros: Good Food Cons: Long wait on weekends, bad customer service certainly not romantic more

Best Indian Food in Utah 11/6/2007

My boyfriend and I love Indian Food. So when we discovered the Bombay House a few years ago, we knew we would be frequent customers. Their Indian dishes are all very flavorful and unique. Their Garlic Naan bread is to die for. I could just eat that for a meal. Very cool ambience. They used to have a better building though - but it was too small so they moved. This is a restaurant that people like Mayor Rocky Anderson frequent. (We saw him there once, and the waiter said he came in often.)\r The only drawbacks - on the weekend, you could have up to a 75 minute wait. They have a small staff, so things move slowly there. The wait takes a long time, your food takes a long time, your bill takes a long time. But if you are an Indian Food person - it is worth every minute of the wait. Pros: Great authentic Indian food Cons: wait wait wait more

Best Indian Food ever! 4/28/2007

They have some of the best Indian food I have ever had, and I don't even really like Indian food. The service was great and I will def be back again and again! more

Yum! Yum! 2/6/2007

This place is amazing. My husband and I just live down the street and wonder why we don't visit this place more. The food is FANTASTIC and full or such wonderful flavors. I have to say this is one of my top 5 favorite restaurants in the city. I love their ""new"" location. The dark warm colors make the place feel so cozy and inviting. The times that we have gone the service has been very slow but worth the wait. I could say more but you have to experience for yourself and just know that you won't leave disappointed. Pros: food, quality, parking, atmosphere, beer Cons: possible long wait, slow service more

Terrific food 1/25/2007

This is a fabulous Indian restaurant, being a Brit I was brought up on Indian food and this is as good as it gets, but be prepared to wait a while to sit down as the place is always packed, but it has a good buzz. The service staff are friendly and polite if somewhat harrassed at times. But this doesn't bother me as the food is worth the wait. I had one experience where they were so busy they forgot to deliver the appetisers, but made amends by not charging for the bottle of wine we had and giving us a free appetiser next visit - knowing that they are prepared to remedy service that falls short of expectations is a solid plus.\r \r The only thing that really gets me about this place is that there is a wonderful bar area in the middle of the restaurant (a legacy from the prior occupant) that is not used. Why not put it into service? It would make the wait much more tolerable (at least for those of us in SLC that partake of alcoholic beverages)\r \r In my experience this is one of the best Indian restaurants in the US, and it has a broad range of vegetarian options as well as the traditional meat dishes.\r \r Just writing this makes my mouth water - I guess I'll have to go back there soon. Enjoy! Pros: Plenty of parking, Vegetarian options, Great food and more great food Cons: Expect to wait a while for a table, liquor license but no bar more

Terrible food and service 11/16/2006

I'm Indian, and have eaten Indian food for more than 25 years. The food at this place is very americanized. I'm not just talking about the level of hotness or spiciness. The taste in general is bad. The service is also variable depending on the color of your skin. If you are Indian, they don't like you. If you are white, you may get good service. I have heard the same comment from several of my friends, both Indian and Caucasian. If you want good Indian food in Salt Lake City, go elsewhere. There are better Indian restaurants in SLC with good food and service. I will not list them here on this page, as that would be bad manners. Pros: Close to downtown and University area Cons: Bad food; Bad service. more
