The Scene
The Bombay Company began in the mid-'70s as a mail-order company selling ready-to-assemble inexpensive reproductions of 18th and 19th Century traditional English furniture-mostly small pieces like butler's tables and magazine racks. Now, Bombay shops are at upscale malls and carry large finished furniture as well as loads of small furnishings and home accessories. The original British Empire feel is still there with a contemporary accent.
The Goods
Look around and you'll see things that might have been brought home by retired British officials from India or some other far-flung former colony: assorted chests and boxes, items with leather, brass or silver trimmings, rich fabrics, Oriental rugs.
