A narrow street like atmosphere for the backyard and a wooden shak for the bar, boheme has a hipster crowd and chill atmosphere. We had an interesting night more

Eh. 4/23/2012

This place was seriously understaffed for a busy Sunday afternoon. Tables were not cleared of dirty dishes after people left, they ran out of mint to make mojitos, there was no system of first come/first served. You have to make yourself obnoxious to be noticed. Thanks, but no thanks. The place seems very popular, so my business won't be missed. more

a great place to go anytime 2/14/2011

A good wine bar serves a wide spectrum of customers, from neophytes who can't tell the difference between a Chardonnay and a Sauvignon Blanc to experts who want to try a glass of a new release before buying a few cases for their cellars?i've only been here twice, but both times, I've really enjoyed the food, and the servers have all been very knowledgeable about the wine. I really like their cheese boards but the all the food are also delicious. Lots of house-made stuff of great quality. The desserts could use a little work; not great, not bad. Crowd tends to be trendy-casual, and the prices reflect the trendiness. My main issue was that the music was super loud and tailored toward the people at the bar no matter what time it was. Wish that during peak dinner hours the music could've been less boring, and soft enough to have a non-yelling conversation. Other than that, I'd definitely recommend coming here, more

Great Place to go if Your Not Thristy 3/9/2010

Have you ever been to a bar where if no one knows you no service? Well this is the perfect place. My friends and I have frequent this place for a while mainly b/c it was in walking distance of my house. The old staff members were great! Now they have replaced all the old staff w/ new staff members who seem to be more concern w/ snorting coke in the bathroom then customer service. The bartenders ignore you like your not sitting right in their face. When they finally ask you about a drink its takes another 10-15 for them to make a drink. Please so not order a martini or anything they have to make it might take 20 mins. Like I said we frequented this place b/c of location, but then the staff became unbearable. Rude, Mean, Totally Unprofessional, and SLOW! One of my friends recently dated the barback, Valerie Smith to be exact and she had her band from the place. When we called to speak w/ the management staff about this they said we agree w/ our barback. Interesting how a barback the lowest position in the bar has soo much pull. The fact that was left out was my friend stop dating Valerie Smith due to the fact she was stealing from her to feed her drug habit. So just think a barback that has a drug problem and around money 24-7 just how much money she is taking from the bar? Its sad there a like 100 plus bars in Midtown/Washington Ave you would think the management staff along w/ the owners would care about who they employ and customer service. Just saying if you choose to frequent this place watch your purse/wallet! Pros: Great Location Cons: Horrible Service more

Great Place All around 2/4/2010

Great place, great staff, relaxed environment, friendly patrons. This is a dive bar, its not trendty and doesnt attract the hip crowd, more of the intellect, cutured and well travelled people. Great place to hang out and chill and have a late night bite. more

Great Place! 11/5/2009

I've been to Bar Boheme about 6 times now. They have great happy hour pricing and tasty wines on the expansive list (try the One Last Kiss). I will admit, when bustling the service can be painstakingly slow...so, just be prepared for a crowded bar with tasty eats and sips but snail-paced service...but, if you go on a Friday at the start of the month (first Fridays I think?) while you wait for your libations you can listen to wonderful opera singing and learn a thing or two. An opera company in Houston called Opera Vista and their team of cultured crooners were extremely entertaining and educational. Who doesn't love great wine and good opera? Happy Hour is wonderful and I really enjoy the frozen mojito and sangria. The back patio is really nice and has a bar...the furniture is a wee bit uncomfortable. They change out the art work every week or few weeks so the bars feel and decor are constantly changing. It's fantastic and all the art is available for purchase. 3 cheers for Boheme! Pros: Good wine, nice atmosphere and live opera classes! Cons: parking can be annoying if you don't wish to valet more

Worlds apart at the Bar Boheme 10/15/2009

*Note - First off, I?m particularly impatient when it comes to parking. Personally, I believe every establishment should offer valet as a basic service. So, the valet was definitely a plus. I pulled up on the opposite side of the street and hesitated for just a moment. The valet sprang into action and traded me a ticket stub for my keys. An attentive valet is always an excellent first move. The Boheme caf? and wine bar was an absolutely pleasant experience. I was at peace with the entire look, feel, taste and sound. It was aesthetically pleasing to all of the senses. I felt as soon as I walked in I had found my place in the world I just couldn?t ascertain where exactly that was. As soon as I entered my ears were pleasantly invaded by the sounds of Brazil, Argentina or some South American country like that. I?m no expert on international music. Noticeably greeted with a smile, I felt the staff was attentive. I took a detour from my usual Dos Equis vice and indulged myself in a bottle of Bianchi. Being a wine bar, Boheme has many excellent selections. I also liked their Arauro Pinot I tried by suggestion of the main bartender, who appeared to be fairly knowledgeable. An immense wood and stone wrap around bar sits right in the middle of the main room. The seating was sufficient. Boheme has a variety of couches and seating options. The art on display reminded me of grant wood, a gothic feel to it. These pieces would meet the end of their tenure by the end of the week; as I was informed the owner Morgan Holleman prefers to rotate many of the pieces on a weekly to monthly basis. The d?cor was soothing and intriguing. Venetian style stucco walls, oversized sconces, antique lighting, stained glass hanging sections to name just a few of the interesting extras you will see adorning the Boheme. The surrounding garden is sparse on the greenery but is a suitable patio with an extra bar The menu was limited but quality. Samusas, Empanadas, Pizzas, and Quiche. In addition to wine they also offered espresso, cappuccino The Boheme houses a worldly feel collection of culture and international appeal, Holleman plays the role of ambassador of good food, excellent wine, and good times. I will say the Bar Boheme is certainly an asset to Montrose and Houston. OK place if you can find someone to WAIT on YOU!! 7/25/2009

We sat in a table outside in the beautiful (ha ha) garden and were ignored for 20 minutes. There was a table of 8 that was served beers twice and quiche and the girl (can not call her a waitress) didn't even look at us. Finally we went inside and talked to the MAIN bartender, we ordered from him, got our drinks from him and paid him. There were as many people who looked like they were on the payroll as customers. So it was a very frustrating place for people who were really not in a hurry. Pros: Food was ok. Cons: You need to lay down in the aisle to get some assistance. more

Once was enough... 3/1/2009

Charming building, relaxed atmosphere, great Happy Hour prices on a few drinks on Sunday afternoon. But the two other customers was really more than the clueless and overwhelmed bartender could handle. It took several minutes before we could even order. And with the other customers, it was apparently ""name your own price""...since she didn't know what things cost, and was asking the customer what the menu said. One old lady came in and wanted one of the pastries for sale under glass, which seem to throw the bartender for a loop...not know what the next step in the sales process was. Finally the lady had to spell it out,""I WOULD LIKE TO PURCHASE ONE OF THESE PLEASE"". So the bartender reached in with dirty hands and put the pastry on a plate for her. Not real hygenic IMHO...they should have just been giving them away for free, and letting patrons serve themselves, if they're not going to serve them properly for a price. We enjoyed the drink, the atmosphere for a few minutes, and had a nice break. But, it gave us no reason to ever go back. If you live within close walking distance, it might a decent neighborhood hangout for you to go for a drink, since the Happy Hour prices weren't bad, especially if they can improve the service. Pros: Good happy hour price on a limited selection of drinks. Cons: Poor service. more

who is running this place? 10/18/2008

I have been to Boheme 5 times now. Sometimes it's not bad, but generally the service is slow, the wines are warm, and the staff cannot handle more than two customers at a time. Pros: we can walk there Cons: service, staff lack of knowledge, wine list out of date, misleading specials more

great atmosphere and music 10/7/2008

was called out to check out the monday night music act, was awsome! the gypsies where on fire! my friend and i went the following night and got to sit in on the local performers open mic night, we had a blast! if you enjoy going to austin and hearing fresh music you will love this place! the coffee was great and by the looks of it so was the wine and beers. everyone there was having a wonderful time. i've been to many yuppie and trendy wine bars and this one is not that! this place is grounded and comfortable. i will tell all i know what a great time we had there and will visit boheme over and over! let the fun remain and all the stiff uptights go where they belong, at home alone. Pros: every thing more

Free Tony 9/1/2008

Alright, I had enough. Boheme is a great place. great wine list, great atmosphere. All this slamming against Tony has to stop. Tony is The reason why people come to Boheme. ""[F]ake British accents?"" You got to be kidding. Got something against foreigners? Then yes, stay away from Boheme. You don't like the electic wine list Tony puts together? Again, stay away if you prefer safe conventional wines. BTW, notice how these ""reviews"" are all written within a short time frame? I really like the one complaining about the health code standard. Boheme does not serve food. Pros: Tony Cons: ""Inspectors"" with motives more

You call this a wine bar? 8/11/2008

On a recommendation from a friend, we took a group to Boheme after dinner at a nearby restaurant. We never should have gone. I don't have time to list all the disappointments, but here are a few: (1) They ran out of ICE. In Houston. In August. This then caused a snowball effect, where bartenders/barbacks had to leave to go buy more ice, leaving the bar manned by 2 very slow bartenders who were then only able to serve very HOT beer and/or cocktails with no ice. (2) As has been stated before, the electrical systems there look downright hazardous. Is it really necessary to equip your outside deck with flood lights more suitable for interrogation of prisoners of war? My friends and I felt like we were in Guantanemo Bay, with hot blinding lights beaming down on us. (3) The unisex bathrooms have no locks. Really? Unisex bathrooms are fine...but unisex bathrooms with faulty locks are not. Cons: poor service, hot beer, bad ambience more

easy going place and surprsingly spacious 7/20/2008

It doesn't look like the typical yuppie bar in mid-town and the place has some old inner loop character. Wine selection is ok, but a bit pricey even for house wines. Beer and liquor prices are typical for the area so not too bad. Parking is bad, but at least they give you 4 or 5 spots which is better than some places that don't have any. A few complaints, you guys have wires and extension cords EVERYWHERE whether it's cable, phone, audio/video, or live power. I couldn't even begin to count all the code violations I saw there on the ceiling. Also, in the back it's way too dark to see things and there is alot of junk laying around everywhere to trip on. So if you fix those things so the place isn't a death trap, and the guy bartender decides to put on guy pants, guy shirt, and underwear so his backside doesn't show when he bends over, this would be a great little place. Pros: nice location, decoration Cons: spider web of wires and electrical code violations everywhere that makes you nervous more

Great place for a date! 7/5/2008

With live music and great wait staff, this place makes for a great date or just to hang out with friends. I would definitely return and recommend Boheme to everyone I know! :) Pros: Great atmosphere Cons: NOTHING! more

Great place for live Music and Wine! 7/2/2008
