Best gym in town 2/23/2010

I joined Bluefish a few months ago and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Imagine running on the treadmill, listening to your iPod, and having a breathtaking view of Charleston harbor at the same time. They have a good selection of equipment, a knowledgeable and friendly staff, two hours of free parking, and steam showers in the locker room (which for me was a selling point) Try it out for a while. You won't be disappointed. Pros: Great staff, View of Charleston harbor. Cons: I wish we had a pool. more

A trainer's recommendation 2/8/2008

I came to this club when I was in town skiing with H2osmosis on St Johns Island. I needed some cross training and am a personal trainer, so naturally I am a little picky about my facilities. I WILL, however workout ANYWHERE anytime. =) more

a serious gym about core strength and balance 3/6/2007

True, V is an expensive gym but you get a lot for your money. The view, location, trainers and facility are top notch. They have lots of cardio machines (with tvs that actually work), one cardio room, a yoga room, free weights and a variety of ""Free Form"" (?) machines - much better for properly building strength than traditional machines. In this gym you'll see some pretty muscular people doing weight excersies that look more like yoga than power lifting. This gym is about overall health, balance, detox, inner strength (lots of yoga, pilates, core strength classes) with a ""rejuvenation center"" next door (saunas, massage, ionized water, etc). Also...locker rooms are very nicely equipped (work out and shower towels free) and clean. Steam showers could be hotter but water pressure is awesome and showers are stocked with Aveda products. Pros: Quality equipment that works, clean, tvs on cardio equipment Cons: Price and 12 month comittment more

Not worth the $$ 9/16/2006

This gym bills itself as Charleston's only ""upscale"" fitness club. If that's true, then ""upscale"" needs to be redefined. This gym is in a beautiful space and if you want to pay through the nose for that, go ahead. They have one room where all cardio classes take place (think dragging the spin bikes across the floor before class and dragging them back afterwards). Because all classes are in the same room, they can't offer that many at any given time. They only carry one brand when it comes to weight training machines, so there's no variety/choice there. They validate parking only up to two hours so if you have a long workout, forget about showering. Why is it so hard to find quality health clubs in Charleston? I moved here from a bigger city and am very dissapointed by the poor quality and high prices in this area. You are expected to pay a king's ransom for minimal services. Don't waste your money here. Pros: Located downtown, nice building space Cons: Overpriced, limited classes and class times, no value for the $$ more
