Our honeymoon budget ended up being very small so my husband & I decided to stay in Minnesota & travel to one of our favorite places in the state ? the North Shore. After three days of taking in the sights and sounds of Duluth we traveled north to Tofte & Bluefin Bay. Staying at Bluefin Bay was my choice & I had never been further north than Gooseberry Falls, so it was an exciting trip. The drive was long but worth it ? the people at Bluefin were utterly friendly & accommodating & we were never hassled or hurried by anyone, even maid service (they only cleaned when we asked) - our honeymoon stay at Bluefin was truly private & special. I had also chosen our room (Grand Superior 1 bedroom) because of its size & amenities. The wall against the deck was floor to ceiling windows ? what a view! The bathroom also had a window by the spa tub with a view of the lake; the room had a wood-burning fireplace, a full kitchen & even a deck we were briefly able to use (even in June it was chilly up there) The grounds were extensive & there was plenty of room to move around & explore - we were able to get to the area behind our deck, where we enjoyed sitting & watching the water break against the rocks ? Lake Superior went on forever into the distance. The restaurant had beautiful views of the lake & delicious food ? one night my husband had maple whiskey elk & I had ribs (if you mention you are on your honeymoon you will get free dessert!) We were even able to check our email at the Guest Services building - so happy were we to find an email from our photographer that our wedding pictures were ready! One day we drove to Grand Marais, stopping at Cascade Falls on the way back ? what a sight! We even got to stand right next to the falls ? it was quite a thrill. Both nights at Bluefin we enjoyed a movie & a real fire with the deck door open, listening to the waves lap at the shore. We didn?t even get to use the pool area - two days at Bluefin was just not enough! You must stay here!
Pros: Website has full room details and prices, even virtual tours; food at the restaurant was delicious; our room was huge and had every amenity, including cable TV. Guided tours/activities offered.
Cons: The people in the next room were loud and rude ? their noise was fairly audible. Rooms are not ?cheap.? We couldn?t always park near our room ? lot wasn?t huge.
