I first came across this business a year ago. I currently live outside if NH but I have a rental unit in Manchester. My tenant called last year in nov to let me know the disposal unit was broken and needed to be fixed. Me being away, I went online and did a search on handyman and came across this company. I submitted an online inquiry and the own, doug, called me within minutes to offer his service. I was initially impressed with his promptness and decided to go with him.
He talked to my tenant and determined the problem was that the disposal unit is fired, and needed a new one. I said ok. He then tried to up sell me on a more expensive, more powerful disposal unit... Said it would work so much better than the old unit, and also last longer. Not knowing any better, I went with his recommendation. I asked for an approx quote on getting everything fixed, he said it would be anywhere between 230-260. I thought it was steep, but wanted to satisfy my tenant as a good landlord, I went with it.
My tenant later on called me and said everything was fixed. I emailed Doug and asked for the final invoice, and asked him several times for a receipt given the fact that I need that info for tax return. Doug said no problem, and he would get me the receipt as soon as he receive payment. Of course he sent me a bill for 260, the high end on his quote . I sent him the payment the very next day, he cashed the check, but the receipt never arrived, not by mail, not by email.
After waiting a couple of days, I got frustrated and sent Doug an email, asking for the receipt. No reply, I sent an email again after 2 days, this time, he emailed back and said he didn't get the first email asking for a receipt.... Whatever, he finally sent the receipt after approx 2 weeks of finishing the job, and cashing my check.
A year gone by, and my now new tenant called about 2 weeks ago and said the disposal is not working AGAIN!!! I contacted another contractor who redid my bathroom earlier the year and he looked at the disposal for me... And he wss able to determine the disposal unit is fired. Given it was just installed last year, my new contractor asked me to contact Doug to see if the disposal is still under warranty.
I contact Doug, he wanted to run some ""test""... So I had him talked to my new tenant. Doug told me the same thing, unit is dead, and needs a new one.
I told him i am just trying to find iut if the unit is still under warrenty. So he sent me an email on Monday dec 12th said he would call home depot to see if the unit is still under warranty... And also he will get in touch with his plumber to see what his labor will be... All I wanted to find out from Doug was just to see if the disposal he bought was still under warranty and I never said I was going to hire him again after having to chase him down for a receipt...
I waited and waited, no word from him... So I sent him an email saying any updates, he said not yet, since he is still waiting on the plumber. Why the heck on earth are you waiting for the plumber??? You said you were going to call home depot yourself.
Needless to say, I got sick of waiting.. It's been more than a week since my tenant told me her disposal unit that Doug installed last year is no longer working... And I am still no where near getting an answer from Doug.
The feeling I got from doing business with him was a mistake, I don't kno if thats simply because I am out if state and it's so easy for him to rip me off since I am not there to supervised.
