great food , but it did give me GAS

Worst

This place was not that great. My two friends have been raving about it for months and I finally decided to try it. I have been craving Mexican Food so I have been trying Mexican ...

Love this place! 3/21/2012

I live in the neighborhood and dine here with my family at least once a month! I never had a bad meal, service or incident. The staff is down-home and the house margarita's are stiff. The Garbage-Can Nachos are to-die-for! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I would've given this review the full five stars, but the parking does suck at times. Ha Ha! Food...Good....Parking......Sucks! more

great food 2/28/2011

great food , but it did give me GAS more

I bring my family here often. They love it. 2/9/2010

The Tuna is great, the burgers are huge, but the ribs are excellent, comparable to TJ Ribs in B.R., which are the best I've ever had. Pros: Never had anything less than great food and service. Cons: Parking around peak service hours is sometimes tough. more

FIVE STAR FOOD IN A QUAINT LITTLE PLACE:) 10/5/2009

We ordered the seared tuna in bearnaise sauce served with vegetables which are cut fresh dailey, and spanish rice. IT WAS A FIVE STAR DISH... I have never had a better tuna dish in my life. DELICOUS........ The friendly and attractive waitress topped it off perfectly...We will definetly be back.... Pros: Quick service with a smile. more

FOOD FAIR, SERVICE IS A JOKE! 12/13/2008

THE FOOD IS FAIR.... THE SERVICE SUCKED!!! NOT ONE SMILE FROM EITHER WAITRESS. THE FIRST WAITRESS BRUSHED US OFF TO ANOTHER WAITRESS FIRST OF ALL. NOT ONCE DID I GET ASKED IF I WANTED ANOTHER MARGARITA AFTER SITTING THERE WITH AN EMPTY GLASS. WE NEVER RECEIVED OUR SIDE OF SOUR CREAM, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS WROTE ON THE TICKET AND THEN THEY HAD THE NERVE TO SCRATCH IT OUT!!! UN FREAKING BELIEVEABLE!!!! THERE WAS A HAIR ON MY GARLIC BREAD, I DID ASK FOR ANOTHER PIECE TO GO WITH MY TAKE HOME BOX, AND EVEN SHOWED THE HAIR TO HER.... WE RECEIVED THE BOXES, THE CHECK, AND THAT WAS IT... WE PAID THE BILL AND LEFT A COMMENT TO EVERYTHING THAT WE FOUND TO BE SH*TTY. WE LEFT NO TIP. OH, AND WHEN WE WERE WALKING OUT THE DOOR, THE WAITRESS MENTIONS THE BREAD!!! GIMME A F**KING BREAK. WE WORK IN A RESTARAUNT OURSELVES AND THIS IS WHY WE FOUND THE SERVICE TO BE A SHAME. Pros: CASUAL Cons: IT'S A NO FUN JOE ATMOSPHERE more

Love the Tomato! 11/1/2008

I love this place. It's such a little hole in the wall, but it's so wonderful. The food is fresh and, for having such a large range of it, surprisingly authentic! The waitresses are all so sweet and always make you feel welcome. My favorite are the enchiladas, the spinach dip, and when they have 'em, the BBQ ribs!! They also have a KILLER margarita! I also agree with the last review... get ya a RC Cola while you're there, it'll bring you back to the 90s!! Pros: Variety, fast service, friendly service Cons: Hard parking, weird hours more

Awesome Food! 10/11/2008

To the person who said the tacos were soggy, they're soft tacos. They do not have crunchy tacos.\r \r I personally have never had anything but fabulous service and excellent food every time I've gone to the Blue Tomato. In fact, when I've had a rough week at work, one of the ways I treat myself is to get some Blue Tomato. Their burgers are so huge that they could be mistaken for a whole meatloaf on bread! The spaghetti and meatballs is simple but wonderful, meatballs are gigantic. My favorite is the enchiladas, both beef and chicken ones, and with them I always request a side of their scrumptous guacamole.\r \r I suppose anyone could have a one time bad time at any place. I urge the person who didn't like the service/food to give it another try. Pros: quaint, small atmosphere; friendly, local staff Cons: limited parking spaces more

Food's delicious 7/29/2008

I love the food at the Blue Tomato. They keep it simple, but it's always tasty. If your looking for a small casual spot, a hole in the wall, this place is an authentic Southeast LA little spot. Get an RC Cola while you're there! You don't know what you're missing. more

Over-rated 7/25/2008

This place was not that great. My two friends have been raving about it for months and I finally decided to try it. I have been craving Mexican Food so I have been trying Mexican food all over the city. We first ordered chips and salsa. Then, I ordered tacos and my boyfriend ordered a chicken quesadilla. The chips and salsa never came out. The other food came out a half an hour later. The taco shells were soggy and the pork made the whole thing really dry. I asked for salsa and she gave me louisiana hot sauce. They never refilled our waters. The people sitting next to us actually left because they waited about 20 min to even get their orders taken. The food was OK, but definately not worth the horrible service. \r \r Carreta's Grill on Veterans includes chips and salsa and has a very big lunch menu. Also they are very reasonably priced. I would recommend going there before ever going to the blue tomato. Pros: Portions are big Cons: Service, Cleanliness more

Yummy!! 7/23/2008

If you are looking for someplace casual, fun, for cocktails and food this is the place. Although the bar area is not so big , only enough room for a few tables and video poker machines, it's perfect for a few magaritas and dinner after work. \r \r Parking could be an issue but if you till Jefferson Feed is closed you can usually park in the front of their lot. The hamburgers are the biggest I have ever seen (Including Port of Call) and delicious. Usually my husband and I will split the burger and order 1 side of fries. Their Pulled Pork is to die for. \r \r I agree that some of what the other reveiwers had to say regarding the condition of the restuarant is true . However, some of the best restuarants in this city are not the newest and/or cleanest and your not going to patron them in a cocktail gown. Pros: casual relaxed place more

Seared Tuna 6/4/2008

The Blue Tomato's seared tuna is a must try...The location is friendly and casual and the staff is always willing to help and friendly. The food however, is as good as you get in the New Orleans area. Their seared Tuna is for me a must every time I am in New Orleans. Honestly all of there food is good and the quantity is more than you need to eat at a single sitting. In a town known for food this place is a priced right, excellent place to go if you like cajun or mexican food. By the way the seared tuna may not be on the menu always but I have never been there when it was not available so you might want to ask...It is worth it. Pros: Casual dining, excellent food Cons: small place with a smaller parking lot more

Great Place to Eat 2/18/2007

Everything that I have ever ordered has been really good. I recommend the Fajitas and all of the new Tuna entrees. Everyone there is as nice as can be. I really enjoy going there. more

Great place if you like lug nuts in your salsa 11/1/2006

One of my friends got a metal nut in his pico de gallo. He showed it to the waitress and she exclaimed, ""Oh, that's where that went,"" and picked it out with her fingers. She then explained that their pico de gallo was homemade and a piece from the machine in the kitchen had fallen off and must have landed in their sauce. She didn't apologize and they didn't take a cent off of the bill. Cons: It's really dirty more

Never had a good meal here... 10/13/2006

On one occasion, everyone else was served, but my meal didn't come until I asked for it - and then it took another 15 minutes. On the second try, the hamburger was so salty as to be inedible. No third chances... more

Great little local joint 6/13/2005

Wnet while visiting friends in the city. The burger is the largest burger I have ever had, and it was very good. No need to get the side of freis! Pros: Cheap Cons: small seating area more
