Bad food and expensive 4/11/2010

I wanted a place where I can catch up with my girlfriend so thought we could grab a glass of wine and a few apps. We did and ordered the octopus, calamari, some salads and hummus. The octopus was terrible. We gave it back after the first bite but was still charged for it. The calamari was terrible and soggy, barely any flour on the squid. House of Lu down the street makes the best calamari, so go there. The salads and hummus can be picked up at Whole Foods at 1/3 the price and better quality. The pita chips was the best part of the snacks that we ordered. We will not come back! Pros: Near my work Cons: Bad idea altogether to come here more

Just Bad 4/7/2010

I have been going here for two years. Loved every minute of it. Until tonight. For my 29th b-day, my mom made reservations for 8 of my family to eat there. We went, sat for an HOUR before we were asked for our order. At that time, my husband and I asked for cokes that were flat. We asked for new ones. We're still waiting.\r \r Our food finally came half an hour later and guess what? No food for my husband. They apparently ""forgot"" to make it. When we told this to the owner, he said ""ok."" As we watched plate after plate of food go by to other tables, 20 minutes later, my husband got his food. Just in time for the rest of the table to be finished with their meals.\r \r When this happened my mother explained that she was NOT paying for his meal, seeing as how it came so long after everyone else's. The owner's response? ""Yes, you ARE paying for it."" An actual verbal altercation ensued, where every patron in the restaurant took notice to how the owner was treating my mother. I assume that $15 was REALLY important to him. We waited another 15 minutes for our bill to come. When it came, they had added gratuity, charged us for the pita they continually brought out (even though we didn't ASK for it) and also charged us for the cokes they said they wouldn't be charging us for. The reason? Appaently, the owner has ""problems"" with people trying to get their food for free. I have never in my life had such a bad dining experience and will do everything in my power to ensure that others aren't treated the way that we were. What an embarrassment for my family, and for the owner to act like such a money hungry child. How sad for him. Pros: We got to leave Cons: We tried to eat here more

Bad Food / Not Greek 3/1/2010

The worst ""Greek"" food we ever had. We're from Europe and know what good Greek food tastes like. This wasn't even close. The Souflaki was not grilled pork as it should have been, but a hard, dark mass of grilled ground beef (looked like dog poop!). The gyro was made of the processed stuff sold in fast food restaurants and tasted awful. The fish plates also had some gooey stuff on it that tasted horrible. On top, the waitress told us that the Souflaki was actually supposed to be Libenese, same as the rice (I think I would be insulted if I was from Libanon). Anyway, they charged full price for each soda/ice tea refill and also for an appetizer we never ordered. The desert for the kids never showed. Too bad the food was so bad and not worth the price because the restaurant is nice. Pros: Nice interior Cons: bad food / bad service more

bad food, overly expensive, charges not disclosed 2/28/2010

This was such a bad experience. The food was just okay, and when the bill came it knocked us out of our shoes. The soft drink refills were not free, which was not disclosed, the kids meals came only with meat and hummus, french fries were $5.00 extra, which we did not know. The kids were supposed to get a free dessert, which also never came. The waitress came with pita and olive mush in the beginning, (we did not ask for that) which we had to pay for at the end! It's such a rip-off and this place should be shut down. Cons: expensive, food not good more

Pleasant memory 7/25/2009

My boyfriend and I dined there not to long ago. And I will mention we had an amazing experience, we got the best service, food was delicious, and we didn't have to wait to long to get it. I loved it, the owner was super nice, and the belly dancer was amazingly gorgeous. I will definitely come back here again. Pros: food, service, atmosphere more

Expensive, Horrible, Greek food 6/7/2009

We went for dinner at the blue tavern, and we ordered a couple of appetizers and waited about 30 minutes and when it came it was poorly presented, and the octopus was fresh out of a can. We waited about another 30 minutes after finishing the appetizer. When the main course arrived, it seemed as though the chefs decided to put random, old, stale, undercooked, pieces of meat thrown together on a plate. (mixed grill) The gyro was had a whopping three pieces of meat on a piece of pita which probably cost about 75 cents, but instead this single small gyro cost us about 15 dollars which also came with French fries instead of a actual Greek side. We were so disappointed we left before finishing the meal, and for 3 meals and 2 appetizers it cost over 100 dollars. Pros: Nice and cool Cons: Expensive for low quantity, bad quality of food more

Wow! Didn't know it took so long to microwave greek food. 4/30/2009

Ok, my buddy and I had heard about this place and wanted to try it out. Arrived to an empty place and got a table. Ordered a couple of apps which were out of a can or tasted like it and some wine. Out of the red so got the red zin which they ran out of after 3 glasses. Ordered gyros and waited.......still waiting oh and did I mention that more people came and went having dinner while we still waited for gyros. Asked to speak to the owner who was cooking due to pissing off his chef so that he refussed to come in and the owner wouldn't even step out to address the sitution. After all that we got our food to go since he was not going to cancel our order after we waited an hour and a half then on the bill charged us for 7 glasses of wine.......did I mention that we would have loved seven glasses but this hole didn't have that much in stock. A total of 9 people in the entire restaurant all ate before my bud and I and we ordered gyros. We laughed our bootys off and searched the place for hidden cameras thinking this has got to be a joke. All in all........the owner needs to put his pride aside and hire a staff that can do the job. Cons: Ran out of wine after 3 glasses more

Excellent Greek restaurant - great food, great ambience, reasonable prices 1/31/2008

We decided to try the Blu Greek after having several not so pleasant experiences at Greek restaurants in Natick, MA, where we used to live. We were pleasantly surprised. The ambience is wonderful - the decor, the background music, and even live Greek music on the weekends - free of charge! The food was truly excellent. We've been back twice more, and have only improved our opinion. Their feta cheese is excellent, as are the lamb dishes. I had a seafood kebab, which was very good. Their spanakopita is heavenly, as is the Nicosia salad. And the pita bread, which they bring before the meal, seemed to be freshly made - soft and warm. The service was great when we were there. All of the staff were very attentive and friendly. It appears to be a small family owned business, and their goal is to please their customers. I highly recommend it. more

Excellent Food - Poor Service 2/17/2007

We went to Blu Greek Taverna last night and were extremely impressed with the quality of the food. My lamb stew was cooked perfectly and I enjoyed it very much. The decor made you feel that you were in a little restaurant in Greece. Only complaint was the very poor service. The waitress greeted us promply and was very friendly at first. However, she never checked on whether we were enjoying or appetizer or entrees. She never asked if we wanted more wine either. Finally, she just asked (from another table) if we wanted our check without offering dessert. Needless to say, she received a poor tip. All in all, the food outweighed the poor service and I would recommend this restaurant. Pros: Food, Decor Cons: Service more

A Greek Option Outside of the City 12/24/2006

Blu Greek Taverna opened in September 2006 and is a nice addition to Marietta Square. My husband and I decided to try a variety of appetizers and just skip the entree. We had the grilled octopus, feta shrimp, fried calamari, assortment of spreads, and the traditional Greek salad. The portions were large, and we were not able to finish everything. The octopus and shrimp were the best. Unfortunately, the spreads were not so good and the pita bread they served with it was thick and dry. (If you want a spread, we recommend going with the eggplant.) The salad was ok, but nothing special. We paid $85 for the appetizers and a carafe of wine, which was a bit high given the quality of food and casualness of the dining room. One thing that made this experience less enjoyable was that the tables were certainly not big enough to accommodate multiple appetizer dishes. We felt that we had to rush through one dish to make room for a new plate, and that was no fun. Having said all that, however, we do plan to return. We met John, the owner, and he mentioned that if we like to try lots of different things, he can make up small plates from the entrees to give us a greater selection, and we will definitely try that the next time. This is certainly no Kyma, but it does offer a Greek option for those who don't want to venture into the city. Pros: Located in Marietta Square Cons: Prices are a bit high, ambience more
