so much love in my heart for union square's bloc 11. in a city that doesn't particularly encourage lounging, this small but daring cafe (along with much of union square! love to linger) has it down to a science.
during the winter months, they will entice you in with thoughtful hot drinks, free WiFi and the ability to sit in the vault and huddle for warmth - the space, like so many of boston's coolest, used to be a bank. but it's in the summer that bloc 11 really shines.
their amazing lemonade, array of vegetarian-friendly salads and sandwiches (don't worry, meat eaters; they've got you covered too), and above all lovely outdoor patio culminate in an experience that is relaxing and real. perched at a table outside, you can watch the world go by, run into old friends and make new ones; it's almost like a surrogate front yard in a small town. check them out when the sun is high; you won't be disappointed!
Pros: vault or patio - pick your poison!
