The Scene
Blackjack's mascot is a brawny, Paul Bunyan-type cartoon character in a red flannel shirt schussing downhill on a pair of sawed-off tree trunks. The backwoods theme is appropriate as the resort is stripped down to essentials, with a day lodge, four double chairlifts and a handful of groomers.
The Slopes
Blackjack's biggest asset is its large snowboard half-pipe, which dominates the slope above the parking lot. The popular pipe is serviced by two rope tows and is immaculately groomed with perfectly curved slopes for practicing tricks. Of course, riders are welcome to join skiers on all other slopes on this 465-foot-high knob, which features some steep runs near the summit and two dedicated mogul runs near the base of chairs C and D. Though the runs are shorter than at neighboring resorts, it does make the best of its terrain with trails that meander around thick stands of trees.
