I feel like Dr. Blackham is a nice man and a smart and capable doctor in most regards, but office conditions and hygiene practices are pretty shocking. His office is dingy and dum...

Great Doctor! 6/2/2008

I just gave birth to my second child using Dr. Blackham. He is an amazing Dr. I recovered very fast and had no tearing. I also only had to push for 5 minutes. Compared to my first pregnancy he made this one seem easy. He is a great Dr. I was impressed during the prenatal checkups at how I never had to wait more than 10 min. But after the delivery my whole family was impressed. He made the experience personal and executed my delivery like an artist. I thought both his receptionists were super nice and a small office like his made me feel comfortable because I had more attention than large clinics. I can see why all the nurses at the hospital said they use Dr. Blackham as their O.B. more

Provides the care I need 11/26/2007

Dr. Blackham was very easy for me to work with. Having recently gone through menopause he was the first Dr. who would listen to me and talk to me about hormone replacement options (other Docs dismissed me and my input about my care). I feel very comfortable with Dr. Blackham and know that if I have a problem he'll listen to what I have to say. He is also very responsive, if I call the office to speak with him he will call me back the same day. I appreciate his consideration in that regard. AND he is normally on time with his appointments! more

I Love Dr. Blackham! 11/5/2007

I could not disagree with Tricia N. more! Everybody has their own experience and I don't want to take away from hers, but Dr. Blackham is an amazing OB/GYN and honestly, he really doesn't need a nurse. In fact, I never even thought about it till reading the reviews posted here. His office is not in a 'strip mall', it's in a office building shared by others in the medical profession such as dentists and chiropractors ect. I could honestly care less what his receptionist looks like, it has no baring on his ability as a doctor. I find his office laid back, yet professional, just like Dr. Blackham. He's one of the few leader's in diagnosing and treating Endometriosis, which is how I became a patient of his. When I became pregnant, I was so excited to have him deliver our baby, he helped design the maternity ward at NW and his delivery techniques were so good that I had no tearing at all (which apparently, he's well known for this). In fact, my husband and I were at Costco the day after delivery! He always delivers his babies which if you've ever experienced any other OB/GYN office, you'd understand why that's so great. I've recommended him to all my friends and in fact, my sister will be using him to deliver hers. My mom is also a patient, and I've never met anyone who was dissatisfied or uncomfortable in his presence. Even the robes are hand made 'moo moo's' instead of those ridiculous paper things you get to where at other offices. One more thing that really makes a difference with him-you don't have to wait a month to see him! Once your a patient, you can make an appointment for just a few days in advance and he'll be able to squeeze you in which is very nice when your an expecting mother who wants to hear the heartbeat 'just to make sure'. Also-his pelvic exams for annual checkups are also very good-he's 'in and out' so fast you don't even realize he's done! I wouldn't go to anyone else for my OB/GYN needs. In fact, I drive from Everett to Seattle to see him and would drive further if he was further away. Corissa A. more

Not your average Dr. 4/30/2007

I have seen Dr. Blackham after being referred by my physican, which by the way, is in the same location just a few doors down from him. I have worked in the medical field for 21 years. I have worked with all types of physicians. He is nothing but professional and he does a great job. It is true he does not have a nurse on staff. He is not the only Dr. that I know who practices like this. He is part of NW hospital and right there in a medical building across from the hospital is a Dr. who routinely see's pts. alone in a room for very personal female problems, with the same professionalism as Dr. Blackham. I think if you are the paranoid type then he is not the Dr. for you, although you could do a lot worse even with a dr. who has a nurse. He is recommended by me!!! more

WOMEN BEWARE! 4/2/2007

I am not a patient of Dr. Blackham, but saw him as a result of complications during my pregnancy while under the care of Dr. James Joki. Dr. Blackham was his doctor on call while on vacation. Anyone who has visited a women's clinic will immediately notice Dr. Blackham's office is definitely odd. It is located in a strip mall, not close to any other medical facility, and looks nothing like the 15 (or more) clinics I have visited in my 34 years of medical care. The gothic looking receptionist did greet me and hand me the anticipated stack of medical history forms, but she was very young and not someone I would choose to run a respectable medical clinic. I was introduced to Dr. Blackham after he asked her "Who's my next victim?". Considering the amount of pain I was still in after a burst ovarian cyst (while pregnant), I did not find this amusing. He did spent an extensive amount of time interviewing me in his office presumably to understand my condition and history since I was not his patient. It was his examining room that set off all of my "red flags". It was not filthy, but definitely not clean. The most disturbing fact is that he had NO NURSES ON STAFF. This was very strange to say the least. I have rarely had a pelvic exam with a female physician without another staff member present and NEVER with a male physician. Because of my fear for my current pregnancy, I submitted to a visual inspection of my cervix. I was feeling very uncomfortable and asked him why I needed one since I had just had a trans-vaginal ultrasound the previous day. His response was "Wouldn't it be nice if we lived in a world where we didn't need doctors". He did not answer my question at all. I later found out that the ultrasound I had was more than accurate in showing dilation. When he was about to do a pelvic he said, "The next part of the exam will be a digital one, but it has nothing to do with computers". Before he could start, I told him I was extremely nervous and he did not proceed with the pelvic exam. He told me he did not want to do anything that would make me feel uncomfortable. Of course, he took no actions during his this whole procedure to make me feel comfortable at all. He was rude and insulting and treated all of my questions with contempt and complete disregard to my rights as a patient. If Dr. Blackham was the kind of physician who's goal was to provide excellent care in a less stressful environment, I could understand why he would choose to have a clinic away from hospitals and mainstream medical care. But I have to ask myself why (in today's world where established doctors are being convicted of assault) any doctor would choose to have a clinic with NO SUPERVISORY OR NURSING STAFF. I would like to state that I have had two previous pregnancies and two miscarriages during which I saw many physicians both male and female. I realize that not every doctor is for everybody, and all of us have our "off" days, but I would NOT RECOMMEND this doctor to anyone. more

Awesome experience, kind, caring, gentle, etc..... 12/28/2006

Dr. Blackham has been my gynecologist for years, but until we got pregnant, I had no idea how good he really was! I had to have a C-section because the babe was rear first, but he tried everything under the sun to see if we could get him situated better. Let me tell you, surgery is scary, but Dr. Blackham made it seem like a breeze. more

Treasure 5/15/2006

Dana Blackham (a male doctor, by the way) came highly recommended to me when I became pregnant. I must tell you, there's no one like him!! He always deliver's his babies (something like 97% of the time), and after the baby's born, he plays his guitar for a while and sings folk music. His wife offered to take photos of us for free as well! He is the most intellectual and patient doctor/gynecologist I've ever worked with. He takes time to listen to every question or concern you may have. I plan to drive from Lynnwood to use him again when we get preggers. Can you tell I'm a fan?! more
