Best

I shared dinner with six of my relatives on 12/23/11, and we had an absolutely wonderful meal. My husband had the pork shank, which was fall-off-the-bone tender; I enjoyed the bra...

The atmosphere outside is the absolute best. The food is only moderate and the service is only moderate. Our reservations were at 6:00 pm on a Saturday night which was fine, exc...

German brews & tasty foods 6/15/2003

Visited 6/13, we ate outside in the wonderful patio area. We weren't planning on eating but were told we had to if we wanted to sit outside. This area is very nice, calm & green in the sea of the city. We came for the German beer, Hacker-Pschorr Hefe-weizen & the Franziskaner Dark Wheat--both on tap & tasty! The seafood salad was ok, uneventful. The salmon/scallop kebab was ok also, but the spaetzle it was served with made the dish. Definitely a calming garden in the city. Pros: German beer, Patio escape garden Cons: uninterested waiters, had to order food to, sit outside more

A must if summer time 3/1/2003

Black Forest has a superb outdoor dining area.... very romantic and blocked from wind. The food here is authentic and good. A fun place to go with groups of people. Try to get reservations for outdoor dining. They have great parking! Pros: Very romantic, good food, great parking more

quiet neighborhood, great place 12/20/2002

Black Forest Inn has the best...the best out-door sitting area in the whole Twin Cities! It also offers very cheap beer (if ordered by a pitcher), and good wine for the price (if ordered by a carafe). Moreover, the staff is friendly and prompt upon you request and the decor of the restaurant is authentic. It is in its best during the summer season. Love to the Black Forest INN. Pros: great outside dining, great drink prices, great service Cons: rather dead winters more

Outside is the best part 10/27/2002

The atmosphere outside is the absolute best. The food is only moderate and the service is only moderate. Our reservations were at 6:00 pm on a Saturday night which was fine, except that I must ask the question.. How can you be ""out of the special"" by that time at night? more

Get to Know the Place! 9/12/2002

I've been coming here for years. Okay so the service can be slow, but the beer selection is tops, the Ruebens, onion rings & strudel are great. And those slow waitresses are great (like at all restaurants) if you're friendly and out to have a fun time. Nothing better than the end of a 90 degree day, a tall cold one (or more) and a rueben on the patio!!! Pros: Beer, Beer & Beer, patio, ruebens more

It's still a good place, but it's slippi 9/4/2002

I ate hassenpfeffer there this past weekend, and was a bit disappointed. The sauce was heavily dominated by cloves, unlike the nicely balanced sauces I've tasted there before. Service was slow as well. Still, the beer garden is beautiful this time of year (even during a rainstorm, thanks to the heavy tarp) and the spaetzel are wonderful. Pros: Beer garden, good beer on tap, lovel atmosphere Cons: service more

Bavarian Chic 7/29/2002

Love Love Love the Garden and the Beer. I like German food but it is not my favorite. Our server last time was extremly slow, but other times the server was satisfactory. Pros: Outdoor Garden, Beer Cons: Service more

Never again 7/13/2002

After waiting over five minutes to be seated (it wasn't crowded) we had to ask our waitress repeatedly for our drinks, menu, and silverware. Food was served cold. Must be trying to scare away business. Pros: Outdoor Seating Cons: Service, Food more
