I like their beer sampler to start 5/5/2011

This is one of my favorite places to bring someone who has never been there. I like their beer sampler to start just to try all they have to offer. Then just top that off with 1 or 2 of your favorites and you will be feeling good. As for the food? Why not start with a loaded potato pancake with sour cream and apple sauce. You probably wont even have room for dinner but I have had their steak sandwich on pretzel bread and it was very good. more

worth a visit for a good all-around experience, 5/4/2011

Their Sunday brunch includes several hot and cold breakfast foods and a good sampling of German treats. They also have a carving board with two meats and an assortment of desserts. After eating indoors, we caught some live Oktoberfest music this afternoon, bringing our drinks outside to enjoy the entertainment. If you wanted to skip on the brunch, they had a nice patio BBQ with a-la-carte pricing on German bar food. Overall, this place is worth a visit for a good all-around experience, along with the German atmosphere and inspired food offerings. more

They brew their own beer, 4/27/2011

The atmosphere is homey and comfortable. The service is always friendly and attentive. They brew their own beer, which you can see from the bar area, so their beer is very good and changes by the season. I'm never disapointed with a visit to Black Forest Brew Haus. more

They make awesome onion rings 4/26/2011

My go to entree is the Tafelspitz which is marinated beef sliced and smothered in creamy horseradish sauce. Served with potato dumplings and red cabbage. The horseradish sauce is to die for, I think you could put it over anything and make it delicious. The potato dumplings O-M-G are awesome, they come with this perfect brown gravy and are dense and silky and heavenly. The red cabbage is the best I've had tangy, sweet and savory. Yum! They make awesome onion rings, super crispy (cornmeal coated I think) served with a creamy chipolte sauce. Also their Onion & Ale Soup Au Gratin is fantastic, kind of like French Onion soup only better. We've never had a bad dish here and always leave with happy stomachs. more

I highly recommend the Rouladen 4/22/2011

the food is good and the beer is even better. I highly recommend the Rouladen which is vegetables and pickles rolled up in beef OMG it is good. Served with red cabbage which is ok and potato dumplings WITH gravy that is amazing IMO. When I am having my salty/carby cravings this dish is beyond perfect. Pair it with thier delicious full bodied Hefeweizen and you will be nice and full. I really do like going here but only two times a year or so. The meals are heavy but tasty and satisfying. The beer and the potato dumplings/gravy stand out. Also they just added a new smoked lager to thier beer menu which you must try if you are a beer person. It really tastes smokey! more

Best quesadilla's i've ever had 4/20/2011

Love this place. Been going here for close to 4 years now. I almost hate to review this place, cause i've always felt like its 'my secret place' which im sure a lot of other people feel this way too. They beer is great, my fav is the Hefewiezen, easily. They def have a bavarian feel to them. Hostess, waitresses, and bartenders are extremely nice. Heck, even the bouncer who is there only on certain nights is nice. Best quesadilla's i've ever had, i know, weird to say from a german place. You can just taste how fresh they are though. Pretzel and pretzel bread, the brewben sandwich. The burgers, i really just cant say enough good things about this place. more

Black Forest Brew Haus in Farmingdale is a good place to go for drinks with friends. Good imported beers and mixed drinks. Bar tenders nice. Clean atmosphere. I would recommend this place to others. more

The beers are excellent, so I recommend this place as a bar for Happy Hour. They also have an excellent dueling pianos program occasionally. more

Not the best German Food, but the beer is great. 2/10/2008

Went there for the first time to meet up with friends and try their German Food. The beer and service was great, nice ambiance. If you are looking for authentic german food this is not the place to go. Their potatoe pancakes had oregano in them and there spaetzle was cut like pasta. My husband and friend had the wiener schnitzel and it was tough. I had the sauerbraten, it was tasteless and not like sauerbraten at all. The potatoe dumplings were gummy. There desserts were very good and again the service was great. I would not go back there for German Food, possibly would go back for a burger. Pros: Plenty of parking, polite servers, nice ambiance. Cons: Not so good german entrees. more

Good local brew, customer service lacking, patio is nice in the evening 7/27/2007

Service was basically horrific. But I think it was the waitress. Other tables appeared to have their drinks, food, and re-fills on time. I enjoyed the Heff. Locally brewed! Also had the crab cake sandwich ? very tasty! Fish and Chips were deemed just mediocre but the Seared Ahi Wrap was very very good! It was hard to keep the sun off at happy hour, but once it lowered below the building it was comfortable! There were older large groups there hanging around and the means of obtaining your beer appeared to be to walk your own self to the bar and get it yourself!
