IT ALL STARTED WHEN… After years of working in the wine business in Florida and North Carolina, Jason was finally able to open up “the Chicken” in 2010. Once described in the Charlotte Observer as a “vest pocket sized” shop, the people of Matthews and surrounding communities embraced the concept. Our community table has brought people together over the years, sparking many new friendships and sometimes more than friends. We’ve been lucky to be a part of many of our guests stories, from bridal photos to baby showers, birthdays and celebrations of life, we’ve even had the pleasure of hosting a wedding! In 2019 we expanded into the adjoining space, increasing our footprint by 4 times, and becoming Black Chicken Market. We now offer deli sandwiches, salads along with cheese and charcuterie. We’ve also added draft beer, an expanded bottled beer selection, sodas and an array of non alcoholic beverages. We’re having a great time continuing to pick awesome local products including snacks, ice cream, Pasta and Provisions for retail, and much more. Open for lunch and dinner Tuesday thru Saturday.
