snobbish owner 4/3/2009

Although the food was very good, the owner/waiter was snobbish and condescending b/c we had the audacity to bring in our own wine. He was rude, intimating that our bottle wasn't good enough for his restaurant. Later, when we tried to buy a 2nd bottle off his wine list, he discouraged us from buying it b/c it wasn't good. Why is it on his wine list, then? (we couldn't afford the wines he did recommend) A great restaurant pairs great food with great service -- this place only got it half right. more

Great place for a large party or a wine tasting! 1/12/2008

We had a fifty person holiday party at Bistro Le Crillon, and it was a blast. The food, service and ambiance all contributed to a great party. The service was terrific and we thought it was a good value for a party with a pre- set menu. We were able to have 3 main course dinner options as part of a 4 course meal for our guests. Everyone raved about the night for weeks. more

awesome french food 1/5/2008

small front. family owned. nice and quiet. not a good place for big and loud groups. superb food. the wild duck was fabulous. as was the Cornish game hen. the desserts were really amazing as well. like the creme brulee and the puffs. slightly on the expensive side for very low income college students, but well worth the money if you like game, or just good food in general. more

Worth the trip! 1/3/2008

I have been looking for a ""special occasion"" restaurant--one that has a great atmosphere, attentive service, outstanding wine list and most importantly remarkable food--and I found it . Who knew it would be in a strip mall in Newport Beach? I stronly recommend Bistro Le Crillon--well worth the drive from the South Bay into the OC !( or wherever you are travelling from) Make sure you try the lamb! Pros: great food, even better service Cons: there isnt a second restaurant in the South Bay! more

Great Place! 12/31/2007

Excellent Food, Marvelous Atmosphere! 12/31/2007

You don't find restaurants like this anymore. Bistro Le Crillon is perhaps the finest french bistro that I have dined in in America in over 20 years. (That is having spent almost 7 years in Paris, plus I'm a New Yorker) The food is perhaps the finest example of classic french fare in all of greater Los Angeles. The wine list is very extensive and very affordable. The sea bass with mango was perfect. The wild boar over paparadelli was a reminder of cold winter evenings in the Medoc! This is the perfect dining spot in Orange County. Very romantic, excellent food, tremendous wines, a wonderful evening! more

Amazing Food. Outstanding Service. 12/30/2007

We went there for a surprise birthday party with a group of seven. We were warmly greeted at the door by one of the owners, Diego. He welcomed us with open arms and showed us to our seats. It was the beginning of a wonderful evening. We were served outstanding wines from the cellar, tasty starters, flavorable main courses, and delicious desserts. We all tried something different and my particular favorite was the sea bass - tender and cooked to perfection by the chef/owner Chantal. My husband had the boar which he loved. We had a very memorable evening and would highlyl recommend this bistro to everyone. Pros: Personalized service, food selection, wine selection, friendliness, more

Best Kept Secret in Orange County! But not for long! 12/30/2007

We ventured to this much recommended Bistro this past Saturday, 12/29/07. This is what awaited us...What a fine dining experience! A menu worthy of the classic Bistro?s of Provance! We started the evening with a selection of Tapas, Chicken w/Morrel mushrooms in a wonderful cream sauce, A selection of sausages and olives par none, and bacon wrapped dates to die for! For the main course we choose the Cassoulet, the roasted rib of lamb and the Tournedos Rossini! What we experienced was a true fine dining joy! The lamb was so tender, you could cut it with your fork. The flavor was amazing! The Cassoulet was a dream straight from Provancel! Rich duck confit, delicious sausages and an amazing sauce! However the treat of the evening was the Tournedos Rossini! Being true truffle fanatics, we were pleasently surprised to see the abundance of fresh black truffles on this classic dish! The fillet, like the lamb before, was butter tender! The sauce was rich and classic. The foie gras and truffles were heaven on earth! Now for the wine list? No surprise here, a Wine Spectator award winner! The selection is amazing and the prices are the most reasonable that I have seen in over 30 years of fine dining! We started with a wonderful 2005 Pulnigny-Montrachet from a very small vineyard in Montrachet. What a wine! For the main course we were in the mood for a true pinot from the same Burgundy region. What came was a wonderful, rich, full bodied pinot that made our main course even more divine! The co-owners, Chef Chantal Berton-Crillon is an absolute treasure! We had to laude our praises over every detail of this true dining experience. Diego Ostroski, the additional co-owner, was our expert guide through his extensive wine list. His expertise and knowledge of wine is second to none! This secret of Newport Beach, will no longer be a secret! This absolutely charming Bistro warrants many, many more repeat dining excursions! Simply the BEST KEPT SECRET OF NEWPORT BEACH! Pros: Food, wine selection, staff more
