We ventured to this much recommended Bistro this past Saturday, 12/29/07. This is what awaited us...What a fine dining experience! A menu worthy of the classic Bistro?s of Provance! We started the evening with a selection of Tapas, Chicken w/Morrel mushrooms in a wonderful cream sauce, A selection of sausages and olives par none, and bacon wrapped dates to die for! For the main course we choose the Cassoulet, the roasted rib of lamb and the Tournedos Rossini! What we experienced was a true fine dining joy! The lamb was so tender, you could cut it with your fork. The flavor was amazing! The Cassoulet was a dream straight from Provancel! Rich duck confit, delicious sausages and an amazing sauce! However the treat of the evening was the Tournedos Rossini! Being true truffle fanatics, we were pleasently surprised to see the abundance of fresh black truffles on this classic dish! The fillet, like the lamb before, was butter tender! The sauce was rich and classic. The foie gras and truffles were heaven on earth! Now for the wine list? No surprise here, a Wine Spectator award winner! The selection is amazing and the prices are the most reasonable that I have seen in over 30 years of fine dining! We started with a wonderful 2005 Pulnigny-Montrachet from a very small vineyard in Montrachet. What a wine! For the main course we were in the mood for a true pinot from the same Burgundy region. What came was a wonderful, rich, full bodied pinot that made our main course even more divine! The co-owners, Chef Chantal Berton-Crillon is an absolute treasure! We had to laude our praises over every detail of this true dining experience. Diego Ostroski, the additional co-owner, was our expert guide through his extensive wine list. His expertise and knowledge of wine is second to none! This secret of Newport Beach, will no longer be a secret! This absolutely charming Bistro warrants many, many more repeat dining excursions! Simply the BEST KEPT SECRET OF NEWPORT BEACH!
