This place is stuck in a time machine. Another post said it's like it's stuck in a time macine, and that is so true.

Great french food, Great service, Dissapointing desserts 5/29/2008

Thank god for Bistro le Cep. I was starting to wonder if I would have to be subjected to eating La Madeleine's 'French' food for the rest of my days in Houston. Bistro is such a nice and cozy restaurant to have some really hearty french food. Although the clientele is overwhelmingly middle aged, making it feel a bit hoity-toity for diners around my age (almost mid-twenties), the food is well worth it. I suggest starting off with the mussels--they are huge and so sweet and fresh! The coq au vin and braised short ribs are the ultimate definition of hearty comfort food there. My boyfriend is always usually impressed with the fish of the day. However, with great food I would have expected great desserts but that was just not the case. The creme brulee is just short of tasting and feeling like frozen custard and the chocolate sauce on poached pears was overwhelmingly bitter. I urge everyone to try the food there though--its a great splurge! Pros: Great entrees, Yummy pate, Great service Cons: Desserts, Can be a tad pricey more

Amazing Service and wonderful food! 8/2/2007

My boyfriend and I have been several times and are never disappointed. The snails & quail are superb and the waiters are the most professional and friendly I have ever met. The chef always stops by and the manager has walked us out twice. The value is second to none and the live music on Friday/Sat night is lovely. YUM YUM! :) Pros: Service and Value Cons: A little out of the way more

Best atmosphere, Best service, Best FOOD! 1/10/2007

I was on a double date and my date had been to Bistro Le Cep and is almost known by name there. He called for reservations, good thing, it was packed on a Saturday night. We were seated very promptly. We were waited on quickly by our waiter Victor. We all had an alcoholic drink and all were great. The appetizer came out quickly. The water was refilled promptly. And now to the Food! All i can say is WOW! I had a cod dish that was so perfectly cooked. I can't say enough about this bistro. I would and have recommended it to many friends and family. I will be a return customer again and again! Pros: GREAT SERVICE, FOOD, AND ATMOSPHERE! Cons: REALLY FAR FROM WHERE I LIVE more

My girlfriend had her babyshower here last night. Extraordinary value and delicious meal for only $20. I tried escargo for the first time and it was tender and delicious! I had the catch of the day red fish and was cooked to perfection. We all enjoyed exceptional service and the chef himself stopped by to wish us bon appetite! This will be my next date night destination! Pros: European Atmosphere and exceptional service and gourmet dining Cons: Way out WESTheimer more

Outstanding Food, Superb Customer Service 7/18/2006

Went there on Saturday night, Lamb a la Provencal was delicious and the Tarte Tatin my wife had was the best, Chef Sanvicente did an excellent job and the service from Matre D' Obed Salmeron is always neat, Chef Joe Mannke was truly amazing. Reasonable prices and I may say lower than anybody else in town for the quality of food and service. Wine list is abundant. I higly recommend this restaurant is the cheapest way to visit France without leaving Houston!!!! Pros: Food & Service Cons: You need to make a reservation or you will have to wait more

Avoid Like the Plague 6/13/2006

Tonight we stayed 3 hours. Our food had been warmed over, our waitress was the bartender and the food for all three of us was ineatible. Now, they did charge a lot if that is important to you. I would rather waste my $80 on an order of fries than even think about the gross liver they served me and the embarassment taking my family to such an awful place. Pros: The wine was good Cons: The food was bad and the service was, too. more

Sunday dinner special is the BEST! 5/11/2005

Went there for the first time for their Sunday dinner special. Pick one appetizer, entree, and dessert from the menu for only $20! What a great way to initiate new diners to the restaurant. The food and service was great! The menu is very diverse, from boar to rabbit, but there are staples like chicken and fish. We will definitely come back! I will never make Sunday dinner again! Pros: Food, Service, Sunday Dinner more

Love It! 10/25/2004

I absolutely adore this place! We go at least once a month and enjoy every minute of our stay. The waitstaff is very friendly, knowledgable, and attentive. Every waiter seems to have sommelier training, as well. The bouillabaise is mouth-watering, sigh-inducing goodness. I highly recommend it. The duck is fantastic, too, if you prefer game. Also, the manager seems to be omnipresent and is always very friendly and delighted to see his customers. Overall, this restaurant is fabulous -- don't let the location fool you! Pros: Delicious food, Great service, Good wine selection more

Met the chef while eating there. The pates remind me of my Aunt's in Coreze France. Rich and flavorful The wines are nice. The staff is knowledgable. The Creme brulee is smooth, creamy, and lovely The place smells like good food. Most of the entrees are superb, like my Meme used to make for me. Authentic, except the spaetzl. Definately make reservations. Staff is attentive without pressure. I go when I miss my Nana and Meme. Smells like and tastes like their food. Pros: fresh, humble,, inviting, Yummy, pairs wine and food Cons: , makes me homesick more

Kill the Wabbit 7/26/2002

Now I know why Elmer Fudd wanted that wascawy wabbit so bad. This tender, flavorful rabbit in a burgundy wine sauce, wow. I've been there several times now, and everything I've tried has been real good, but the rabbit is the best. more
