Dr. Mehta has an authoritarian style. If you contradict him, no matter how politely and validly, he gets defensive, even rude. He will spar with you even about publicly-verifiable facts. He contradicted me when I told him he was reading information out of some other patient's file! Every time I had to ask him for refills, he acted like I was trying to hustle him for drugs--and my medications have absolutely no street value. When a patient I know had an allergic reaction to medication and called his office, the doctor told her "take less of it" That's all he said--end of conversation. (Allergic reactions are serious, and the medication that causes one should be withdrawn immediately.) His office staff is neither bright nor helpful; he charges fees for things other psychiatrists don't; and both he and his staff seem to treat patients as if they are all raving lunatics. Other psychiatrists I've consulted with all seemed to know about him, and held him in poor regard. I've been seeing psychiatrists for 20 years, and I've never met one so hostile, even if I didn't particularly 'click' with him or her. Mehta got a Top Doc award in 2004, but I sure don't know how.
Pros: Office close to my home
Cons: Long waits, unhelpful staff, and a psychiatrist with a nasty attitude
