I initially chose to go with Bill because his quote was the most reasonable of the contractors I had come look at my deteriorating porch. In March, he scheduled a time to do the work in mid-May. He called the morning he was supposed to arrive to say that he was behind in his work and wouldn't be there that day. I said that was fine. A month went by, and I never heard anything from him. He was supposed to fix my neighbor's porch at the same time as mine, and they hadn't heard anything from him either.
When I called mid-June to find out the status, I was told that they were still behind due to the wet summer. We haven't had an unusually wet summer, that I'm aware of. But I was assured that they would be there the following Monday to start work. Monday morning, I received a call saying that Bill had thrown out his back and was going to the doctor. Again, I understood. You can't control things like that. But several more weeks went by, and I didn't hear anything.
Mid-July, I finally called to ask for my deposit back, because I had lost faith in his competency to do the job. I was stalled for several more weeks with phrases like, "Well, I'll make a note of that and get back to you." Finally, when I demanded that the check be put in the mail immediately and mailed to me, I was told it would be done. However, that was two weeks ago, and I still haven't received the deposit.
Almost all other reviews for this guys are positive; so I'm not sure what has happened in my case. But I've received horrible treatment as a customer. He took $800 as a deposit, and 3 months after the work was supposed to be completed, the work is not done, and my money has not been returned.
