Bill Guardino Brick-Stone

We have a beautiful 1940s Brick Cape that has stood the test of 70 years; a few years back in 2009 we hired Bill Guardino to repoint our chimney and one small exterior area. They did show up for two weeks after the scheduled start date; when they did arrive it was Bill and his Son; they did a terrible job that looked like it was a weekend DIY project; the mortar was applied by hand leaving a sloppy appearance and risk of water ingress; per the pictures my wife took and for the FOUR (4) hours they spent here its abundantly clear they did not even grind out or surface any of the existing mortar! I was not happy with the work but he had my money and I had little recourse except to wait until it fails and redo the work....according to my recent call with Bill Guardino I should be happy to have FIVE (5) years out of his work...since I paid 1500 that is $300/year; woohoo I made it SEVEN (7) years at a cost savings of 215/year!! The Guardino family sold us hook line and sinker...wife said this is a family business for 30 year and our repointing work is guaranteed for "life"....DONT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID! I wrote the review about Bill's taking $800 and not doing the work. Well, he did finally return the money. It took a month, but he returned it. My neighbor hired him at the same time I did, and he did come a year later to do the work. He did nice work. more

I initially chose to go with Bill because his quote was the most reasonable of the contractors I had come look at my deteriorating porch. In March, he scheduled a time to do the work in mid-May. He called the morning he was supposed to arrive to say that he was behind in his work and wouldn't be there that day. I said that was fine. A month went by, and I never heard anything from him. He was supposed to fix my neighbor's porch at the same time as mine, and they hadn't heard anything from him either. When I called mid-June to find out the status, I was told that they were still behind due to the wet summer. We haven't had an unusually wet summer, that I'm aware of. But I was assured that they would be there the following Monday to start work. Monday morning, I received a call saying that Bill had thrown out his back and was going to the doctor. Again, I understood. You can't control things like that. But several more weeks went by, and I didn't hear anything. Mid-July, I finally called to ask for my deposit back, because I had lost faith in his competency to do the job. I was stalled for several more weeks with phrases like, "Well, I'll make a note of that and get back to you." Finally, when I demanded that the check be put in the mail immediately and mailed to me, I was told it would be done. However, that was two weeks ago, and I still haven't received the deposit. Almost all other reviews for this guys are positive; so I'm not sure what has happened in my case. But I've received horrible treatment as a customer. He took $800 as a deposit, and 3 months after the work was supposed to be completed, the work is not done, and my money has not been returned. more
