The South Side Irish Parade...At what point does the original family connection and intent of this event outgrow its venue? Residents tolerate legal as well as underage drunkeness, indecent public acts, damage and wear and tear to property year after year. Our streets are clogged, our parking is banned. You say this is a one time event, is you don't like it move. How do you sell a home in a depressed market when attendees escalate criminal threats to return to the community and harm both property and residents? I need to question if the resources and venue are no longer adequate or appropriate. Will the community provide a patrol much like the graffiti blasters to hose down and neutralize urine from residences as well as a fecal pick up from the bushes? ( I'm not referring to canine pets) Perhaps it is time to reserve a space in the city parade and unite all communities for this celebration. This is no longer a family marching to celebrate the pride of heritage or the patron saint and religious solemnity it heralds. It is merely a big city parade that has outgrown its neighborhood.
