For many years we used a carpet cleaning company that went out of business last year. I saw a flyer for Best Home Systems in a mailer, and decided they couldn't be any worse than the company I'd randomly chosen a few months before: The workers showed up drunk and stank of body odor and cigarettes, then left half of their equipment and bottles at my house. Anyway, the bar was very low. Best Home Systems sent Jose, a very professional and friendly tech, to my home. About a hour into him cleaning the carpets I heard a crash and the sound of broken glass from downstairs. I rushed downstairs to find Jose on the ground, and the caramel-colored glass from my lamp broken. Although I was more worried about Jose being hurt than the lamp, I was still a little irritated inside; the last time the lamp broke a few years before, it took me four months and $150 to find replacement glass and have it shipped to me. Jose apologized profusely and promised to take care of it. He finished up the job of cleaning the carpets and a loveseat and left with a sample of the glass in-hand. Two hours later I received a call from the owner of Best saying that the lamp glass had been replaced, and would I be home later for a technician to drive it over? I couldn't believe it! True to his word, I arrived home later that evening and the replacement glass was sitting on the porch. I consider the whole accident a very fortuitous event--I found an excellent carpet cleaning company AND a local glass shop for when I break the lamp the next time. :)
