Best Buy is really not your best buy!!!! We don't have a Best Buy here in Alexandria and I had always heard about all of the good deals and all of the electronics they offered. I was in Georgia visiting and saw an ad from Best Buy that had a laptop that I had been wanting to get. It was a week or so before my birthday so my darling hubby told me to go and buy one.
Well, to my surprise, I had to stand in a line of about 20 customers before I could even LOOK at the laptops. I kept telling the salesman that I just wanted to look and see if they had what I wanted. I had to fill out a paper with name, address, phone, and what I was thinking about purchasing, yada, yada, yada.... turn it in and then wait until they called my name. At that point, I could browse the selection of laptops with a salesman. I was rather ticked by now but I waited my turn. When I decided what I wanted to buy the clerk began filling out paperwork with item numbers, stock numbers, all of my information again, yada, yada, yada!!! He told me that I could purchase a three year warranty (which was actually only a two year warranty because the gateway had a one year warranty included with the purchase). That was sneaky sales tactic number 1. Then I was told that if I had to return the laptop for repairs, I could ship it to best buy (since I don't have one near my home). That was sneaky sales tatic {lie} #2. I was offered a FREE 60 day trial of AOL. That turned out to be Lie #3 (they tried to charge me $5.00 for the disc to download AOL). Then I was told that if I had to have my laptop repaired, the third time they would just automatically give me a brand new Laptop computer comparable to what my laptop had. Chalk that up to Lie #4 in the Sneaky sales tatics catagory. I made the purchase and was on my way.
A year later, the lies were coming to haunt me. I had a problem with my computer, the LCD Display screen had to be replaced (repair #1) and another with the battery not holding a charge (repair #2.. even though it was at the same time it was handled separately). After waiting for my computer to be repaired I kept calling the Best Buy nearest me (over an hours drive) and they kept telling me they would call when it came in. They finally told me that the laptop had been shipped back to the store (next day air). They gave me a tracking number so I could track it. Finally, 5 days later (after it was supposedly shipped next day air) the laptop made its way back to the store (it took exactly 3 weeks to be repaired). I never got notified by the store that my laptop had made it back and I could come and pick it up. I checked the tracking record of the shipment and saw that it had reached the store the day earlier and had been signed for as received. I drove the hour and a half back to pick it up. They never appologized for not calling, or for the delayed return. As soon as I got home and tried out my laptop, there was another problem. Certain keys I typed showed up something other than what I was typing. I had to cut and paste url's and email addresses and passwords, etc. The keyboard was totally messed up. I drove back to the store today and the clerk (GEEK squad... aptly named) tried it but it wasn't messed up. He tried to tell me I was hitting the control key with the other keys and that was causing the trouble. Not true. He said they would keep it a few days and try it out to see if they could make it do what I said it was doing. Mind you now, this is repair number 3.... I was told that the 3rd time I had to have it repaired they would give me a new one. No, I did not get a new laptop.
I can promise you one thing.... I will not purchase anything from Best Buy again!!!! They tell too many lies and they don't TRY to help you when you have a problem!!!!
