Editorial review from Citysearch 11/29/2012

I just recently lost Harley, my 12 year old cat that has been a very important member of our family since I rescued him as a kitten. Someone had dumped him off in the country near a friend's house. That ""someone"" had no idea how upset I was with them for doing that to such a friendly, beautiful kitten, but now I want to thank them for being responsible for such a wonderful blessing in my life. \r Recently Harley became ill and I took him to the Mt. Hope Vet Hospital at a friend's recommendation and was so relieved to have put him in such great hands. Dr. Berry and Dr. Sage cared for Harley until his recent passing from metastatic cancer. Both doctors and their staff are very caring and compassionate people as well as professionals. I feel very fortunate to have been referred to them and would highly recommend them to anyone. more

Excellent care, excellent staff! 4/16/2012

My wife and I brought our 10-month-old kitten Milo to Mt. Hope Veterinary Hospital a couple of weeks after he had undergone emergency surgery for an gastrointestinal blockage at MSUs Emergency Veterinary Hospital. He had started to become lethargic, had nearly stopped eating, and was just not acting himself, so we decided to bring to Mt. Hope Vet Hospital to make sure everything was ok. I called to make an appointment at 3:30 pm, and was able to get him in at 6:30pm that same day. On our initial visit, the veterinarian drew some blood and took an x-ray, and planned to let us know the results the next day. The blood work and x-ray looked good, so they had us bring him back in drew some fluid from his abdomen. They determined that there was probably a very small leak in his intestine from the previous surgery, and proceeded to operate to fix the problem. The operation revealed complications which had resulted from the previous emergency surgery which the veterinarians proceeded to fix. The operation also revealed a very severe infection of our kitten's abdominal cavity resulting from the slow intestinal leak (two of the doctors said it was the worst infection they had ever seen in a small animal). The veterinarians took a very aggressive approach in combating infection, and they monitored his status continuously for six days. We got back our kitten today, and he looked better than he had since before his original emergency surgery. Throughout the entire process, we received daily phone calls to update us on Milo's status, and we were never refused when we asked to come in to see him. The doctors and staff seemed genuinely invested in the well being of our kitten, and seemed to pull out all of the stops when it came to his care. We brought them a kitten that was critically ill, and got back a much improved kitten on the mend. At the risk of gushing, I honestly believe that Milo received the best care possible, and that he wouldn't have made it in the hands of another vet. I would highly recommend Mt. Hope Veterinary Hospital to anyone seeking a new vet. more

  • About Us

All of our doctors and staff are dedicated to providing your companions with the best care possible. We strive to give each pet an individualized plan for health care. Vaccinations, heartworm prevention and general health screens may be tailored to your standards, budget and your pet's age and lifestyle. Young, growing dogs and cats and older ones too probably benefit the most from frequent visits to the veterinarian.

Annual wellness exams or even semiannual health checks are a great way to give your pet the best care, find problems early, and deliver the most effective treatments. Although vaccines are still important, regular exams are at least as important in maintaining your pet's health. Wellness testing is gaining in popularity with many clients. Very much like we get on the human side, laboratory testing may uncover something we otherwise would have not known about. When all the tests are WNL (within normal limits) it gives us a baseline you your pets records if anything should change in the future.
