I Absolutely love this place! Great Desserts , Great Wine selections and very romantic setting! Great Date night with the hubby!

Worst

Used to be great, now, not so great...existing on its old reputation and, everyone ""in the area"" knows it. Only tourists or pseudo-affectionatos go there nowadays.

steak, goth, glamour, and service: wow 10/21/2002

I am probably one of the youngest reviewers of Bern's by far but have had the honor twice of dining there. The atmosphere is by far, amazing. I love the ole dungeon-esque ambiance of Bern's. I have searched Tampa Bay high and low for the best French Onion soup and Bern's by far beats all of the others where they all taste the same. I have never had such attentive service both times, and I most of all liked the presentation of the food. My steak came on a sizzling skillet with vegetables and fried onions, which has now become my favorite way to eat steak. Thank you Bern's. You've created an everlasting memory for me. Berns is slipping 10/21/2002

Visited Bern's in May. Arriving about 4:30 with a party of four, were held in the entry-way UNNECESSARIALLY because we hadn't made a reservation (our hosts had just arrived by air and suggested Berns for dinner.) During our stay, there were always tables and wait-staff available. Food was good, not great, and much overpriced. Baked potato wasn't problery done, and shrimp cocktail was grossly overpriced, although very tasty. Service was just OK. Pros: Nice place Cons: over-priced, haughty, slow more

Nice atmosphere but too expensive. The steaks are not tasty. Nice kitchen and wine cellar tour. The Desserts are top rate. The best steak I've ever had. The steaks melt in your mouth, the service is superior, and it is an excellent value. We go to Bern's to celebrate special occassions and for romantic dinners. Pros: Excellent Food, Excellent Service, Great Value more

Rate for the food, not the flare 9/7/2002

Look, bottom line- Bern's is good, but when it comes to a good steak, all Bern's has is name recognition. After eating at Bern's and Charlie's many times, anyone who loves a good steak, and I mean anyone, will tell you that Bern's can't even compete with Charlie's, or Ruth's Chris or even Shula's for that matter. My only complaint about Berns is that I can't afford to go here every day.. because I would if I could. The food is great, the service is second to none, and there's nowhere else near that you can find the great selection of wine that they offer. the mother of all steakhouses... 8/15/2002

I've been to steak restaurants in New York, Boston, Cleveland, Chicago, San Francisco and all over Florida - but I've never been anywhere else where the food is the art form and the steak is the piece de resistance. No where else can I order a steak rare-medium rare and know when it arrives that is how it will be cooked. Everywhere else is, you should forgive the term, a crap shoot depending on who is cooking that day. I am not even going to go into the wine list end of this because its not part of the discussion, but those of you who have been there KNOW. Two thumbs up for Bern's, quirky decor and all. Pros: Superlative steaks, Wine list, Passion for detail Cons: Too full for dessert, Too far away, Tired of the carrots more

Great steaks, caesar, wine, and show 8/12/2002

Bern's is Tampa's ""Peter Luger."" They serve the finest dry-aged prime beef in town. The wine list is overwhelming to most, the sommelier will usually offer a good wine to suit your budget and taste that you don't often see elsewhere. Good onion soup, spend the extra few dollars for the tableside caesar-- it's the best (along with Donatello). Very impressive selection of steaks, caviar, vegetables and soups included. Service is usually very good, but can have attitude. Dessert room is worth the trip, as is wine/kitchen tour. $4 mandatory valet parking and second class treatment by receptionists. Need to update decor and restrooms. Pros: great steaks, a must do for visitor Cons: impersonal, like disney world, update decor more
