Best

I Absolutely love this place! Great Desserts , Great Wine selections and very romantic setting! Great Date night with the hubby!

Worst

Used to be great, now, not so great...existing on its old reputation and, everyone ""in the area"" knows it. Only tourists or pseudo-affectionatos go there nowadays.

How peculiar that two one star reviews are made on the same day by two 'different' reviewers. These same reviewers found Pomodor, 400 miles away in Ga to be so delightful. Could it be they are the same individual? Does this site verify identity? The problem with no verification is that a highly ranked restaurant will suffer disproportionately from trash/trashing reviews. I would consider this in any reading of these complaints by the unknown. I have found Bern's to be pretty much what everyone knows. FOOD is great, DECOR is weird. Service is good to great. Prices are excellent when fare is compared to challengers. more

Not JUST Steak 7/30/2009

4 men & 1 woman go to Bern's. None of them order steak that evening. Every one of them leaves raving that it's STILL the best meal they've ever had at any restaurant in their lives. Pricey only in comparison to most of the Tampa area restaurants. Take the Kitchen Tour & the Wine Cellar Tour. Meander upstairs & down & see all the various rooms. Eat dessert in the Dessert rooms upstairs & listen to your choice of music. If you visit Florida, visit Bern's Steak House in Tampa! Quite simply an unparalleled evening! more

Berns is Perfection 4/18/2009

Soup, salad, entree and sides. It's all there. I hate ala carte places. Just put it out there and charge me one price. Go Berns! The food is the BEST I've ever had. The steaks melt in your mouth, the soup richness of the soup is scrumptious, the salad is so fresh with local organic veggies. The sides are delicious. It just doesn't get any better than this. Don't forget to go upstairs to top the night off! more

Don't Forget the Desert Room 2/2/2009

This is a Tampa tradition. There are no spicey rubs on these steaks. The variety is almost limitless. The wait staff never changes. Regulars request their favorite waiter. Jackets are not required, but only Philistines show up in shirt sleeves. The bar/lounge is plush. Desert is served in private booths on the second floor. You can reserve a desert seating without eating dinner, but diners are given preferencial seating. There is only valet parking and it is not free. more

Great Steak & Seafood 7/17/2006

Berns is where my husband and I go for special occasions. It is pricey, but worth every penny! Service is outstanding, and I happen to love the atmosphere because it's so different than a regular ol' restaurant...boring. Servers treat you as if you're a millionaire and their only customer. I'm not a big steak eater, but I always order seafood there. Their lobster (ask server for the sizes they have that night) is to die for...and they clean it and take it out of the shell for you. Fish is fresh, kept in tanks in their own kitchen (they even let you choose which fishy you want to devour if you so desire). Shrimp and scallops are devine! Save room for the trip to the dessert room. Can't go wrong with anything that is served up there. My favorite room is the "Port Room" for quiet and intimate/coziness. Have your server reserve the room for you when you order your dinner. I can't get enough of this wonderful restaurant! more

Best Steakhouse in Tampa 3/19/2006

Bern's is truely known as a Tampa landmark and for good reason. The food is always 5 star and truely melt in your mouth quality. To truely understand Bern's I would definately request the kitchen tour. Once you actually see the amount of effort that is put into this dining expierence then you dont get shocked by the prices. If the kitchen isnt enough to really impress you then also keep in mind that Berns has their own farms to raise their cattle to their own specifications . That is what I call real quality. more

The steak is worth the drive! 12/11/2005

I've been told by a very good friend for years that if you're willing to travel for the best steak around, then head towards Atlanta and hit Bone's. Now, I have to say that I disagree. Sure, it is a great restaurant, but if you really love steak, then you cannot miss Berns. I can't really comment about the noise or atmosphere as most often I have eaten at Berns while being part of a business meeting. However, I can say that you will not eat a better steak. There just isn't any better. Perhaps it is a little on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for. I can't say the same for Bone's, Shula's, or many other really good steak houses. If you're on a mission to find the best steak, atleast give Berns a shot. It may just be your last stop. more

The Ultimate Steakhouse 8/5/2005

This is not a gimmick steakhouse. You won't find them cooking at your table or anything like that. What you will find is the best steak possibly ever, served around a fine meal and with an incredible selection of wines. You will pay for the experience - Bern's is quite expensive, dinner for two can run around $150. But it is worth every penny if you are a lover of steak. They also have a dessert room upstairs - their homemade ice creams are especially delicious. more

Great Food 8/4/2005

We went to Bern's during the holiday season and had a delicious dinner! The steaks were cooked to perfection and the side vegetables were worthy of the beef that they were served with. I wasn't crazy about the atmosphere I must admit. A bit loud and the decor was rather tacky. You MUST ask for the kitchen tour if you go here. It was really interesting! more

local tradition 7/25/2005

This is the restuarant you save for that special night when you want to go all out. The meal is expensive but they will not rush you in and out and you can have several different experiences in one night. You can take a tour of the wine cellar which is the largest south of DC and then have dessert in the dessert room which I think is my favorite part. more

Best Local Steak House 6/20/2005

This is the top notch steak house in the Tampa Bay area. They are pricey, but again you get what you pay for. I love their presentation and this is a great place to go for a celebration. I've always been impressed with the food and always come out feeling full with a smile on my face. This is a great "date" restaurant to take that special someone. more

  • The Scene
Luminaries from out of town automatically visit Bern's when they arrive in the Tampa Bay area. Limos jam the homely front parking lot and well-dressed diners crowd the foyer. For decades, the steakhouse has maintained its reputation for almost fanatically perfect food and service.

    The Food
Start with one of the 24 varieties of caviar. Move onto vichysoisse, a creamy soup served chilled, accompanied by garlic toast and crackling homemade potato chips. The chateaubriand is delectable. Choose anything from a petite, seven-ouncer all the way to a belly-busting 48-ounce monster. It arrives sizzling, crisp on the outside, juicy and tender inside, crowned with garlic butter and ringed with bright vegetables. Save room for the chocolate, chocolate, chocolate cake or the bananas foster for dessert.
