First of all, I am not a fan of Beardstown. It is a miserable town in the middle of nowhere filled with small minded, xenophobic rubes and religious zealots. I once asked for fresh mint (as in the herb) at the grocery store and was referred to the breath mints at the checkout counter. Not exactly a culinary bastion. \r
However, in the midst of this backwoods hellhole is one of the finest pizza's one will ever taste. I have tried pizza from around the world and still hold a very special place in my heart for Benny's. I grew up eating Benny's and remember how Benny knew everyone of his regular customers by name and treated everyone in the town as family. The restaurant has been ran by numerous members of Benny's immediate and extended family, but the basic pizza has always been the same(and that is a good thing).\r
My personal favorite is the stuffed pizza. Not to be confused with that chain restaurant ""stuffed crust pizza"", Benny's stuffed pizza is a deep dish, filled with tons of cheese and the sauce on top and makes my mouth water with just the thought of it. It may be the one and only reason to visit this unfortunate pit stop off route 67. It is also worth mentioning that the standard thin crust pizza is as good as it gets as well, They used to do a deal where you could order an X-large pizza and get a small pizza free...Go with the X-large stuffed and a small cheese and stuff yourself until you look like the enormous, trans-fat laden locals. \r
The garlic bread with cheese and marinara sauce is also quite a treat. Benny's is one of the only things to miss about Beardstown and it could be said that it is the town's only positive attribute.
Pros: great crust, a savory sauce, good quality cheese
Cons: located in deliverance country
