Recently my daughter's female 13 year old golden/lab cross became suddenly critically ill with seizures and a blood sugar level off the scale from newly developed diabetes and epilepsy. She had also become incontinent and she was terribly ashamed when accidents happened. The staff at the Bellevue Animal Clinic treated her with such loving care and explained all of our options including insulin shots several times a day, seizure medications, blood level checking and even diapers. We soon became aware of what we had to consider since the quality of our dog's life was really the most important thing to us. The staff at the Bellevue Animal Clinic supported our decision to stop all the painful treatments and to let our long time friend go to Heaven where she could chase all the squirrels all day long without tiring and occasionally even catch one. But first we wanted to take her to the park for one last day in the sunshine and a feast of her favorite treats. The staff helped us by getting her ready and giving her enough insulin to compensate for all the goodies we had stuffed in our pockets. Several friends came with us to support our family in this decision and to be with our beloved friend during her last hours. Later that afternoon, the staff at the Bellevue Animal Clinic made our last moments with our dog easier than we had expected, and even shared our loss with their own tears. We were never hurried or made to feel in the way even though we did take up the whole treatment area until we had all had sufficient time to say good-by to our friend and companion. After making plans for her cremation, we left Several days later we received a very kind condolence note from the clinic. That level of caring was so unexpected and so welcome. We will now be supporters of the Bellevue Animal Clinic and see them as often as needed with out other three dogs and two cats, and the Chihuahua puppy we just chose to join our family and share the love we have for all animals. We are so lucky to have found the Bellevue Animal Clinic, a place that really does care about it's patients and their families, too.
