We spent our honeymoon here in the Carriage House. The accomodations are first rate, and yes...expensive, but well worth it.
The carriage house is like a double hotel room, with a LARGE beautiful bathroom. The bedroom/sitting room area is also beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Sleeping in the Queen-size bed was almost like sleeping in our beautiful bed at home. It has its own private terrace with table and chairs, and is shrouded in privacy from the rest of the estate by tall trees & shrubbery.
Everything in the restaurant is homemade, and service can be slow because of that. BUT...the food is AWESOME (and pricey). To start, we enjoyed an exquisted tomato bisque, a fresh tomato & buffalo mozzarella salad with extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar & fresh basil. For dinner we were served fantastically prepared twin filet mignons with roasted garlic potatoes and asparagus. For dessert we enjoyed chocolate mousse with fresh raspberries. We ordered an expensive bottle of Zinfandel to accompany our meal, and it was perfection in a glass.
On Sunday morning we were in awe of the Brunch that is offered. Not very expensive, and so many things from which to choose: made to order omelets & waffles, hand-carved beef, lamb & turkey, and a dessert ROOM to die for! The price of brunch includes coffee (excellent, served with real cream), tea (they serve you an assortment of herbal, flavored & regular teas) and juice. At Noon they serve Mimosas & Bloody Marys. The Bloody Marys are nice & spicy, made with a touch of horseradish.
After brunch, walk around the grounds and enjoy the fresh air, the view of Lake Geneva, and wander over to peak at the peahen and peacock who live on the Estate.
If you have time, ask about a tour of the Castle, and make sure to pick up a brochure that has the history of Belhurst Castle.
This is really a very romantic, almost fairytale-like place, best suited for adults only, so as not to spoil the atmosphere.
