Do not go!! 11/4/2003

Don't go to Galatoire's unless you're a tourist and enjoy being ripped off. I'm a local and went there for my birthday a while back. The food was lousy, especially the crab that we ordered that was full of shells. When we complained, we were berated by all of the wait-staff, from the waitress down to the bus-boy!! The entire experience was awful and the wait-staff are rude. The manager did not handle the situation well, either. In short, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are too many other good restaurants in New Orleans like the Palace Cafe, Tony Angelo's, or Brigsten's! Cons: Bad Food, Bad Service, Bad Management more

Most overrated in New Orleans 9/4/2003

The food is tasteless and mediocre at best, in addition to being overpriced. The service can be good on occasions. If you want to see people and be seen, go there. If you want good food too go to Commanders Palace or Clanceys. Cons: tasteless food, not worth the money, boring menu more

This is a New Orleans Must 8/17/2003

I recently visited New Orleans, and I must say that I loved this place the most. The whole experience was elegant and relaxed, and I really felt that beyond all of the history of the place, I was in a real New Orleans restaurant. If you miss this place, you have truly missed a wonderfully memorable experience. Pros: service, great food, atmosphere more

Old N.O. 7/23/2003

It's well worth standing in line for. Great N.O. food as prepared for a century. No reservations available. more

This is bar none the definitive New Orleans restaurant. I have been eating here for thirty five years. On my first visit I did not know a waiter from a bus boy and now I have a half a dozen waiters I consider mine. From the first sip of my Old Fashioned to the tangy Shrimp Remoulade to the last crispy almond left from my Trout Almandine the experience is the best. I have branched out through the years and discovered one of the best fillet mignons in town. I often take guests there and can easily recommend the entire menu. Pros: good value, great food, great service Cons: can be noisy more

Fresh Seafood and Good Fun 1/2/2003

Godchaux Salad is wonderful and well as the Crabmeat Sardou. This place has come back from its slip last year. more

disappointing 11/26/2002

I was not pleased with the quality of the food nor the service. I will not be back to thhis restaurant any time soon. more

new orleans flop 10/18/2002

The wait of ""less than thirty-five minutes"" was an hour and fifteen minutes. Each time we needed to speak to our server we had to ask other employees numerous times to send him to our table. At one time during the meal we asked three different people to send our server over and it still took thirty minutes for him to come. POOR SERVICE I will visit New Orleans again. I will never go to Galatoire's again. more

Old News, Old food 10/8/2002

Galatoire's chefs and cooks need to go back to school. We recently had dinner there, and while I know Galatoire's is a traditional restaurant, everything on the menu seemed dated. Most items were fried and tasted like they were fried in ""old oil"". They need to add at least a few more contemporary menu items, perhaps as a daily special. The service however was attentive and professional. more

Not What I Expected, But Good 8/1/2002

We wanted to experience Southern hospitality/formality in one of its oldest truest forms, so opted for dinner at Galatoire's. My husband found his asparagus salad very fresh, his crabmeat maison good, and his filet mignon ""perfect."" My shrimp remoulade had quite a kick, the green salad with garlic much the same (tangy!), but the crabmeat St. Pierre had a bit too much pepper. Appetizer and salad portions were ample (for us). The banana bread pudding was divine. Coming from San Francisco, we thought it an incredible deal to have 3 courses each, share a dessert, consume a bottle of wine, two glasses of champagne, and a cognac with a total of a mere $155. You will NEVER find value like that in the Bay area. I'll be back for Friday lunch next time. Pros: Good Service Cons: Jacket Required more

New Orleans is one of my favorite cities!! And the food there is incredible as is the hospitality!! Unfortunately, Galatoire's which I've tried twice wasn't too good the first time around and got worse the second. Not only was the waitstaff RUDE, but the food was mediocre at best. I'm from NYC have travelled all over the country and rarely have I had such a reaction to a restaurant with a supposedly excellent reputation. Be forewarned. For wonderful food and service ,try the great Commander's Palace! Cons: Rude Service, Mediocre Food more

True review from a New York City boy 6/20/2002

Born and raised in NYC so maybe I am spoiled by the best restaurants in the world. Food is fair,a bit picey for the quality, our waiter was a GREAT guy. Old $$ sit upstairs, tourists downstairs. Nothing to rave about but the locals will tell you it is a must. Eat at BAYONA my wife and I loved it (sit in the GArden) more
