Bed Bath and Beyond wouldn’t have ordinarily been a store that I would have considered when I think about places to hit for post holiday sales, but I happened to stop in last year and I was pleasantly surprised! They discount all of their holiday décor and other items (such as wrapping paper, gift bags/boxes, and ribbon). They stock up on a number of things during the holidays such as jewelry boxes, iPod accessories, “gadgets” (such as GPS systems and battery-free flashlights), and massage/spa items. They also carry some toys. Because these are not items that they normally carry, they discount them greatly after the holidays.
Last year, I found a great wooden train set that was marked down to $9.98. I had a 20% off coupon, and so I only paid $8 for it. It is very durable and my daughter has loved it. I also got kitchen sets for my nieces (they included an apron, mini baking pans/cookie sheets, cookie cutters, a rolling pin, etc.) that were only $3.98. My husband’s birthday is in January, so I was able to get some great deals on gadgets and I also found a Homedics seat topper massager for 50% off.
If you’re looking for post-holiday gifts or something to pamper yourself with, this is a great place to go. From my experience, this is not a “first stop” for many post holiday shoppers, so it is not very busy and you can really take your time looking around for the bargains. It is also a great time to stock up on storage items for your holiday décor (or just to get organized as a part of a New Year’s resolution) because they usually have these items on sale.
Their 20% off coupons are usually easy to come by. We get them every other week in the mail and they are also usually included on the back of the ads in the Sunday papers. They will also accept coupons from their competitors.
